New Remote Not Pairing

NormanBates

I had a chromecast remote that does not work (or barley does). I cannot get my new remote to pair. (a) It does not automatically pair as I've been told after the batteries are put in. (b) It does not pair when I hold the back arrow and home button(s) simultaneously.
Using the old remote, I can get to Settings->Remotes & Accessories. I can see the old remote. When I attempt to pair (selecting Pair remote or accessory, and hit the Back (plus) the Home buttons, the new remote never pairs.
I am reluctant to choose Forget the remote I have working (thinking it won't allow two remotes to pair at the same time) because if I loose the one I have I no longer can use my TV if pairing still fails. The TV is out dated (not a Smart TV) so I have no way of adding applications (YouTube TV, YouTube, Netflix, etc)

What to I do? Please help.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. Kindly try this workaround:

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Take this time to unplug the Chromecast device from power and give it a 1 minute rest before you plug it back in.
  • Pair and observe.
  • If it persists, you can factory reset the remote and pair it again.

If it persists, then this is mostly hardware-related now. You can check if your device is still covered by warranty here: Warranty Checker. If it’s still covered, then you can reach out to our support team for a replacement here: Contact Us. You may choose the option of a live chat or a callback from a live representative. We can also send you a form if you prefer communication via email.

Let us know. We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy
