No sound on Chromecast with Google tv

Adamsm86
Community Member

I keep getting no sound on my Chromecast with Google TV.  I have to keep restarting it to get sound back working. Sound works on tv as I use it daily but as soon as I switch to Chromecast then the sound goes and I have to reboot Chromecast again. Is there a fix for this? It was working fine for over a year but only recently it's been happening. Tv is the same so no new hardware.

Hey folks,

Good news! Last week, we started rolling out an update for Chromecast with Google TV that should mitigate this behavior. Kindly observe your devices from time to time and give us a shout if you continue to experience it.

We appreciate everyone’s patience.

Best,
Kimy

Thanks, Carey80 for the suggestion...  it's just that I'm not too fond of fullscreen because of the aspect ratio, which would chop off parts of the displayed video.   That being said, it is a workaround that will help some people - UNTIL GOOGLE FIXES THIS ISSUE.   @Kimy

Hi Kimy I also have this problem. Do you have an update?

Any solution yet? I have the same issue with mine.

Anything?

3 weeks since this post. What good is a Chromecast device if the audio doesn't work? Any indication when a fix is expected?

I thought it was an issue with my soundbar, $500+ wasted dollars later, find out it's a bug.

How is this investigation going.

Weeks with this problem and it's not rectified

Google did nth with it. Maybe only a few people use it. They don't care and not worth to do update.

But, I just want to ask. If google don't want to update it, please downgrade it because I can use it normally before.

any updates?

Tell them to upgrade this to a P0 issue. Having to restart the chromecast every time it’s being used is a major issue and will cause serious user churn if not resolved quickly. Seems to be very widespread based on reactions on here and Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1336gic/no_sound_on_chromecast_w_google_tv/?utm_source=...

Everytime the Google tv is turned on the sound is missing. The sound will only return if the Google TV is restarted.

Tried:

-a factory reset

-Reconnecting Everything

-Issue is only on Google TV (all other services and apps don't have issue)

Hi @NicoTT

I am afraid this is a known issue. Please check THIS topic.
One workaround that seems to work is turning on your TV with the TV remote instead of the Chromecast remote.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your help, @RXShorty.

@NicoTT, our team is already aware of this and is currently investigating this issue. Since this is the same discussion, we'll move this conversation to the main thread, and we'll continue to update it as soon as we have some news to share.

Please note that once done, this thread will be locked.

Thanks,
Kimy

Its extremely disappointing to your customers that this issue, that was caused by a firmware update, takes over a month to fix. Why you dont revert to the previous firmware is beyond me, whatever issue that update was attempting to fix must have been starting devices on fire because its incredible something so straightforward has fallen on deaf ears.

For how many people this affects, and how much money you make off these products (moreso the services they offer), I would have thought you'd do more to fix it, as I can imagine people are just buying and returning "defective" units.

Literally give us anything aside from "we are aware of this issue, and are working on it" when its been a whole month.

Change your video to HDR from Dolby Vision. Not my suggestion, someone replied here and advised it. Worked for me. Still have to wait for a permanent fix from Google

So you haven't heard back in a month?

It is apparently falling on deaf ears.

Hello Kimy,

Is there any fix for this problem ? I need to restart google TV to fix the audio.

Br,

Anant

I am also having this issue! Thanks for looking into it.

I am having the same issue. In order to “fix” it I have to completely unplug and replicate the chromecast back in. Looking forward to the resolution to this issue.

Same issue. Samsung TV and Sony amp. 4 weeks for this is ridiculous, I'm about to just go back my Roku. Tired of hearing my wife and kids complain about it.

Good to know it's (as I had assumed) a software bug.

Hope it'll get patched soon, it's really annoying:/

A month later and I still have to reboot my Chromecast every time I leave the room for a few minutes.

Hi, any news or updates on this?

Please fix this I've been waiting and checking back and I still don't see an update being pushed to fix what Google broke I didn't waste my money on this device to not have it work properly and I have to restart it every time

Restart doesn't even work on mine. I'd factory reset but it takes an hour to install everything and login again. What's up with no single sign-on like Apple?

Google just put out an update (230319.008.R1) that (has so far) addressed the issue.  Go to settings and manually update your CC.

Seems to have fixed it, hope the next patch doesn't break it again.

I don't see the update. Looking in the wrong place? My CC doesn't work in any of the users suggestions. Turning on/off in a certain sequence. I'm fed up with Google.

Does the update I received today address this at all?  STTE.230319.008.R1

Still need to see if there is a change in my experience, but thought I'd ask.

The update seems to have resolved my issue, I didn't have to reboot to get the sound back, so looking hopeful.

Same here

I wish I could do that. I bought it during black Friday on Walmart. Already out of time.

I just plugged in and set up a brand new CC 4K and I can't get sound.

Good point.

When I get home tonight I'll check and post although I don't know what the old one was...

Having the same problem with a new Chromecast. Sound initially worked fine, then 2nd or 3rd time I used it no sound. Very frustrating and no answers.

Mhelseth93

The team are working on a patch/fix since so many people are affected. So that’s your answer, just have to give them time. Unplugging from power or going to settings>system>restart will get it working again until it goes to sleep again.

For what its worth... The problem seems to appear with the newer hdmi ports. Over here 4x chromecast tv connected. 2 connected to recent tv models, 2 connected to older tv with NOT the latest hdmi Version. The oldies Always have sound. The newer hdmi needs a reboot Every time before sound appears.

Rebooting every time to go to menu-systeem-reboot....

After several daily reboots the system reboots in safe mode... The WiFi is gone and the remote does NOT respond. Only à 10 seconds minimum complete unplug/power off wil get a normale reboot and finally -thank god- sound again.

This is going on for weeks now. Why is This SO hard to solve this? Or is it a marketing strategy to sell as much chromecast TV models before the new type is launched? And yes I did read several leaked reports about new cctv models...
