Search not working in Google TV

Yesterday I was trying to use the search function on my Chromecast with Google TV to search for a movie. Previously this function has provided results for the movies I'm looking for, and let me know which streaming services have them available. Now there was a voice saying "showing information about [title of movie]" and a message on the screen saying "You don't have an app that can do this", with no results. And the navigation wheel on the remote would not work until I pressed the back-button on the remote once (there was no visual change on the screen after pressing the back button, other than allowing the navigation wheel to work again).

Whats causing this? And is there some way to fix it?

Have you tried working through the instructions on the support page below?

Hopefully this link will help you.

Thanks for your question.

I have done _most_ of those steps; I have checked the wifi connection, checked for system updates, and restarted the device, and checked which account is selected.

I have not cleared app data, because I'm not sure which app to clear data from for this case.

And is factory reset really a normal troubleshooting step? Feels kind of extreme.

Factory reset does work if everything else failed, I can understand it feels like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut but sometimes needs must.

I decided to try a few other things first, since I had recently removed some apps from my device, I tried to find those apps and add them back, in case that made any difference. I couldn't find any list of "apps recently uninstalled from this device", and had to go by memory.

During this process I happened to try searching for a different movie than I had tried before, and that worked! It appears that I only get this error when searching for "F9" or "The fast and the furious 9", but not for any other movie or show as far as I can tell. I can even search for "The fast and the furious" which will occasionally give F9 as a result.

It might still be that a factory reset will fix it, but if it only affects that one movie, which I have now already seen, I'm not too bothered.

Thank you for helping out on this thread, patrice58!

Hey there Thorbear,

I'm just checking up on this thread, and I'm glad you were able to narrow down the issue to a specific movie! Since you've already watched the show, do you have any more questions or need any additional help with anything?

Best regards,
Jeran
