Sling TV voice command error: "To play that you need a premium subscription"

Hello all - here's an error I just started getting with Sling TV voice commands (Chromecast with Google TV):

 

Some background

 

Troubleshooting so far:

  • Power Chromecast on/off via menu

  • Sign out/in of google account

  • Unlink & re-link Sling TV subscription via Google Home app

  • Factory reset Chromecast & go thru entire set-up again & re-link Sling TV service

No luck. Voice commands still won't launch live Sling TV channels. For some reason the Sling TV integration just seems to have broke for me, and I can't reset it. Very frustrating because these same commands used to work. Any ideas?

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that Sling TV issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out where I can. Looking at the troubleshooting you have already attempted, there may be an underlying issue somewhere. Would you be willing to re-create this issue, then submit feedback via Google TV? That way our engineering team can look deeper into this issue.

Hey @Jeran - no problem. I've already submitted feedback via Google TV ap. And also called to talk to a specialist. No solutions were provided, just more collecting information.

I've googled the error message pretty extensively, and haven't found many other leads. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there ckib16,

 

I'm sorry for the slow response times, but here are some steps that I recommend that you try here:

  • Confirm that the services are linked using Google Home app (Assistant settings > Videos).
  • Confirm that the accounts are linked via the Chromecast with Google TV (under its settings). For the purpose of isolation, try having only 1 linked account for now.
  • Does the issue occur if voice commands are given to Chromecast remote only, or also with other devices such as Google Home?
  • Using Google Assistant app (with same account signed in) on phone > test to voice cast to Chromecast: "Watch FX on Sling TV on [Chromecast name]"
  • Finally, make sure to enable personal results for Chromecast.
