Unable to complete Bluetooth pairing with Harmony Hub

Mannyof2007

I am currently configuring my Logitech Harmony Elite Control to work with my home theater setup. I'm following the instructions below to configure the integration with my 4K Chromecast:

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360050781314-Harmony-Hub-control-of-Chromecast-wit...

The instructions are pretty straightforward. I've configured this integration before, but after reconfiguring my setup, the Chromecast will no longer pair to my Harmony Logitech Harmony Hub. I have performed a factory reset on the Logitech Hub and the Chromecast. I've made sure both software and firmware are updated on all devices. I've validated that my Logitech Harmony Hub can connect to other Bluetooth devices, such as my phone with no issue. I've even tried another Chromecast in my home first, factory reset it second, and still the pairing process failed.

The kicker is that this worked before and now my Chromecast can't complete the pairing process. Maybe a new firmware update botched this for me, but I'm looking to see if others have seen this issue. It is failing right after the pairing prompt pops up. It shows as "Connecting" for some time before inevitably showing " Couldn't pair". I've attached the screenshots of where it fails.

I found the solution in this thread on reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitechharmony/comments/sg72yi/comment/iwc1ont/?utm_source=share&utm_mediu...

In short:

  • Add "Asus Nexus Player" to your Harmony setup
  • Create an Activity with this device
  • Pair your Chromecast with the virtual Asus Nexus remote
  • Now let your original Chromecast Activity pair with the virtual "Harmony Keyboard" (It will magically succeed now!!!)
  • Remove the temporary Asus device and activity

Good luck,  itt is worked for me.

I'm having this EXACT same problem, and it's driving me up the wall. I've previously successfully paired Chromecasts and my Harmony Hub - as recently as ~4 weeks ago. I just moved things around in the house and went to reconfigure my hubs and none of them can connect to any of my Chromecasts w/Google TV.

I've tried the same things you have:

- Factory resetting the Harmony Hub

- Factory resetting the Chromecast

- Trying multiple different hubs

- Trying multiple different Chromecasts

None of it's made a difference. I'm losing 👏 my 👏 mind.

Add one more to exactly the same problem. A new chromecast/google tv 4K. Did go through a firmware update while installing - probably the source of the issue.

Hey there everyone,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! If you've already updated the firmware on the Chromecast and the Bluetooth device, and have factory reset both devices, and the problem persists, you may need to reach out to Chromecast Support. Please fill out this form to have them reach out to you, and let me know when you have.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Can you keep this thread open so we can post the results from talking with support over the phone?

Yes, please keep this thread open so that we can continue to share progress. I have not had time to work this with support - given the Thanksgiving holiday but hope to do so this week.

Hey there njarwala,

I'm just checking up on things here, did you happen to have a chance to fill out that form?

No - I have unfortunately been traveling a lot. Also, I saw Mannyof2007 has done that and perhaps based on that, a future firmware update may resolve? For now, I am working around this - programmed the Harmony to switch to Chromecast and then using its own remote.

Hey there njarwala,

It's no problem at all! If there is an inherent issue, it helps that Google Support is now aware of it. I'm glad to hear you were able to find a work-around at least. In that case, we'll wait to hear back from Mannyof2007, and I'll check up again in a few days.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hiya Mannyof2007,

Thank you for filling out that form! You should have someone from Chromecast Support reach out to you via e-mail soon. They are a bit backed up, since there has been a large influx of cases, so it may be a few days.

Thank you for letting us know that Reddit post that Multatuli posted worked!

Hey Multatuli,

Thank you for sharing! Unfortunately this didn't work for me and I'm experiencing the same "Couldn't pair" issue. Although I'm very happy to hear it is working for others. I will update the thread with anything I find out for my setup.

How exactly do you add the Asus Nexus Player? When I go to add it and ask for the model number specifically so how do I do that?

It works.

Thanks...

I've spent 2h in chat with Harmony Support to receive the info (after 2h) that:
The Harmony Hub (after the Dec 2022 update) does not support Google TV anymore.

No comment!!!!! Grrrrr

Hey there everyone,

I'm just checking up on this thread again; I'm glad that Multatuli's workaround worked for most users. It seems like RicXXX confirmed with Harmony Support that the Harmony Hub does not support Google TV anymore. Regardless, let me know if anyone has any more questions I can address.
