my remote shows there is an update, after many failed attempts i have factory reset. but it continues to say update failed, or it goes through process but continues to say update is available

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Chromecast Voice Remote. Let's sort this out.

 

Quick question: What's the LED light status in your Chromecast Voice Remote?

 

Give these steps a try:

 

  1. Forget the Chromecast Voice Remote. Go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Chromecast Remote > Forget.
  2. Pair the remote. Go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Pair remote or accessory and follow the instructions on the TV.
    Note: If applicable, you may also press the button on the Chromecast device for 1 second for the pairing to start.
  3. Remove and replace the batteries in the Chromecast Voice Remote.
  4. If the steps above don't work, perform a factory reset on your Chromecast Voice Remote again and your Chromecast dongle
