how to set up Google home and Chromecast to have sound coming from Google home

Hello, 

I have purchased the new Chromecast 4k because I have read that I can connect it to my Optoma projector (for screen) and to Google home (for sound) but I seem to fail setting it up. Would you have an idea? Thanks

Strictly speaking Google only supports connecting Chromecast to the HDMI input of a TV, however many users have found success using them with projectors. What specifically isn't working during the setup? Do you see an error on screen or in the Home app? As for using a Google Home speaker or display for the sound, you'll need to add the Chromecast and the speaker or display into a speaker group for that to work.

It works with the projector, maybe the turn on and off button works, but that doesn't matter. I have tried creating the group for speakers but that never works. Either I get an error message that it can't connect to cloud or it can't be found on the local network. I have tried many times over the course of weeks and it never works...

Hey there Marketa1,

 

Just to clarify, when adding a Chromecast to a speaker group, you are only able to use the speaker group for audio purposes, not video. So, you are able to cast sound across all speaker group devices, but you are unable to cast video to a speaker group.

Thank you, but the grouping still doesn't work 😞 the error messages keeps saying there was an error communicating with Google. I've tried so many times and still nothing...

Hey there Marketa1,

That's interesting. Does the speaker group work properly when you don't add the Chromecast with Google TV? If so, make sure your Chromecast's firmware is up-to-date and follow the steps listed in this article.

unfortunately it still doesnt work. I get the same error message as always 'com.google.castframework.setuplib.castsetuperror error0.'

Thank you. I have tried the access to local network, but that is all allowed and it still doesnt work 🙁 i have tried to reset it as well, created new home...nothing worked.

Hello Muddi,

I answered to Jeran yesterday but for some reason I don't see it here.

 

Anyway,I was saying that I have changed internet provider hoping it would help and I'm waiting for the installation (end of the month). If that doesn't help then I'll try filling out the form.
