Blinds not available in Automation tab (HA)

I've managed to add all my Gira devices (smart home solution) to Google Home using the integration provided. It works if I manage the device settings directly - I can control switches, raise/lower blinds and also set the slat position. However when I try to do an automation, there are no options available for any of the blinds. Not even the position. See the screenshot below.

Control screen if I go to Devices -> pick a blind -> I can manage it as expected

Device: iPhone 14, iOS 18.3.2

App: Google Home (latest available version), Public preview enabled

I've reached out to Gira company as well and they'll be looking into this, although they already mentioned it's likely a Google issue.

Hi lenart,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear when you try to set up an automation, there are no options available for any of the blinds. I appreciate all the efforts you've made to resolve this inconvenience. I'm happy to help!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Do the blinds work on its native app automation?
  • Have you tried to unlink and relink the account from the Google Home App?

Once I have these details, I can assist you better with the specific information.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany

Hi Melany,

Thanks for your response. To address your questions:

  • Yes, the blinds function correctly within the native Gira app's automations.
  • As shown in the screenshot from my original post, I can also control the blinds directly through the Google Home app when navigating to 'Devices' and selecting the blind.
  • I have already attempted unlinking and relinking my Gira account in the Google Home app, but the issue persists. The blinds still do not appear as an option when creating Google Home automations.

Please let me know if you require any further information to investigate this issue.

Hi lenart,

Thanks for the follow-up information. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Currently, integrating your Gira devices with the Google Home app is not available. We definitely understand how convenient that would be for you within the Google environment. We're always looking for ways to improve and appreciate your feedback as it helps us continue improving our products to meet your needs.

Hey @gmelanymelissa , what do you mean by "integration of Gira devices is not available"? There's an integration under "Works with Google" and it does work outside the Automations tab within Google Home app. Your answer seems like a generic "copy & paste when effort is slightly too high" which makes me somewhat sad.

Hi @gmelanymelissa, I think your analysis could be improved. I have two similar categories of devices.

1. A device type "Curtain" has direct UI control and corresponding UI for its automation.

2. A device type "Shade" has direct UI control but does not have a corresponding automation UI to add as action.

In my case l, both of these devices are Somfy products. A Somfy curtain or shade typically has 3 buttons: open, close and a middle button labelled "my". The "my" button is a user preset for opening the shade or curtain half way through.

My workaround is to add a custom text action like "open the living room Shade" which works fine.

As an employee of Google, I recommend you reach out to one of the product managers and ask why a device type "shade" doesn't have dedicated action controls for automation when a device type "curtain" does have the automation controls, even though they are similar.

Thank you
