I believe this topic has been brought up, but it needs to be brought up again.
When Google home changed, ALL of my routines became "Personal" routines. I need to be able to change these to "Household" routines, for TWO reasons...
1) So that others can use the routines
2) So that the routines can be added to the Pixel Home Favorites list which will only see "Household" routines.
And no, I will not take all the time required to recreate all of my perfectly working routines when a simple toggle switch or drag and drop can be implemented to change the routines to the "Household" category.
Just one of the problems I'm having with the new Pixel tablet and dock. Don't get me started that some of my routines will not work when the tablet is locked.
What a PITFA. FIX IT!!!!! (please).

Any news when/if Google is going to fix this?

Just another example of Google doing a little bit of everything... but nothing well. 🙄
I think they just do whatever they want and don't actually take consumer suggestions.

I just did the feedback request that our bot friend Juni has been suggesting. Gave them a link to this thread as well. I just hope there’s a human to receive the feedback.
As a product owner, I would destroy my team for not fixing this within a couple days, let alone not coming to find this corner case prior to release.

Whenever there's a new bug in Google Home, I keep asking, HTF did that slip by QA? I really think they don't have QA! They definitely don't seem to have any automated testing, and as we all know, they don't have many tech support people that can explain how to do more than factory reset and hope the problem goes away!
I know people who work for Google and some of them seem happy there, and they've tried recruiting me. But from the outside, it seems a frustrating place to work, without accepted best practices and time to finish projects properly before they get released. I'll bet some of their Home and Assistant developers are heartbroken about how this app turned out in the end… it could've been so cool if it'd been done with more care!

I will add my voice to this as well. Honestly, I am getting pretty disappointed with Google. I have been using my home for several years now and I feel like they have made little to no advances in the time I have owned it.
it’s like Google said “well, we did it. It’s done. On to the next project “. Very disappointing.

That's how I feel about those Google Hub screens. Have you seen those? The UI is clumsy and uncustomisable, and the glaringly obvious improvements we all expected to see never came. It had so much potential, but years later, it's still just a Google speaker that displays your Google Photo album… everything else, e.g. Home control, is cumbersome, very limited and almost entirely unhelpful.

agree.
I bought 2 hubs, a max and a mini. I took the mini out to test the system and use while i was redeveloping my house. Turns out that its nothing more than a glorified clock. Literally zero ability to configure it, or even remove tiles for items that i dont and will never use. "Add contacts" no thanks. "Health stuff", nope dont need that, yet they are plastered onto the home screen with absolutely no means to remove them.
Safe to say the max is still in the box and will likely stay there. Very disappointing, as when you see them online they look like the all singing all dancing customizable screens that you'd expect.
Give me half an hour and i could code my own homescreen better than what Google offer.

Bumping the thread to keep it active, I too am having this issue since I'm looking to use a household routine that uses goodnight.
Would be a really big shame to have to convert smarthome infrastructure because I was really invested in Google. 😕
03-05-2024 03:39 AM
Goodnight gives me also other issues. I have two places where I live and both are Google equiped. when I use goodnight on one place the routines a run on the other place. It is not possible to make a If statment so Google will check where I am (whitch home) before running commands. very annoing

Juni suspiciusly aswers like a bot ... Problem still not solved.
03-07-2024 10:05 AM
Because he is a bot. Google doesn't really have anybody here that's real from their company, they just have people who get awards for commenting a lot getting recognized as experts
03-08-2024 01:32 AM
i think they are all "AI". I even pulled one on it who insisted they weren't, so then i asked to know why all their answers were basically the same to every single question on the forum they didnt reply. No actual human would respond in the pathetic way they do, and likewise no one would get paid for the "support" they actually offer so its pretty obvious really. The amount of questions asked and the response was literally nothing to do with it is crazy.

If so, it's at least better than Gemini, which my assistant was stuck in for a while. All it seemed to do was apologise for not being able to do things the original Assistant helped me with every day. The really frustrating thing is that it prattled on about weird US units all the time, like feet and square miles and Fahrenheit, and I had to tell it over and over again that I don't understand that rubbish and and to tell me in metres and hectares and degrees. I also kept asking how to change back to the old Assistant, and it kept telling me I couldn't—thankfully, that was just a lie.
Honestly, I think all the hype about AI will turn out like self-driving cars and blockchain, and the last couple of times AI was in the news—I'm old enough to remember Eliza! It'll do a few cool and practical things like self-driving car tech (and unlike cr*pto, which is pretty useless in practice, except for buying drugs online), but not be nearly as universal and world-changing as people keep saying… I'm certainly now worried about my software job becoming redundant! And Gemini in particular was released when it was barely half-baked, just like last year's Google Home update, which brought us all to this conversation…

Can’t believe this has been going on for nearly a year. As a developer I don’t care how much of a spaghetti code cluster it is there is no reason a company as big as Google can’t fix this small issue by now. I understand higher priority issues but an intern working for free at a local college could fix this in less than a day. Heck I am more than willing to free lance it over the weekend.
@Juni sorry you are getting bashed so hard over this it’s not on you. However, it really wouldn’t be hard for Google to publish a list of known community features without an ETA just to acknowledge they are aware of it. Ideally there would be a status and an ETA but I get not wanting to set expectations. I also get not wanting to publish features in progress that competitors might get ideas to improve their product. However, you can have a community wish list that is public and a private feature list. There isn’t much you can do besides send the ideas up the ladder which hopefully you have done by now.

Adding in my 2 cents, this is absurd. My entire home is run off of Google and the rest of my family members can't use the routines I spent hours creating long ago? I can't believe Google hasn't done anything about this but this is one of many issues that needs to be fixed... I'm so irritated by this that I'm half tempted to switch my entire home to Amazon's Alexa and start from scratch. Google this is on you and it needs to be fixed. I can't believe this thread hasn't even been acknowledged.

I used linked in and found Rishi Chandra's email who is the head of Google/nest and linked this thread. It may work, it may not but has to try. This is bull**bleep**.
05-08-2024 12:32 AM
Well done lad
05-19-2024 01:19 AM
You still haven't applied this feature we need? How many programmers are working in Home department and no one is capable of editing the code?
05-26-2024 07:25 AM
Is it fixed? My google assistant addressing me and my wife according to our names now, like how it used to.
05-31-2024 09:18 PM
Ridiculous.

I decided to delve into writing the script myself. It's incredibly easy and I just wiped out all of my old routines and I've been writing my own automations while sitting in front of my PC, HUGE time saver! If you haven't tried this, I would suggest giving it a shot, it's YAML so you are just assigning attributes and telling the system what state you want your devices in. There's even an AI coding assistant to help you write your own code. I have plenty of coding experience but anyone could do this.
06-01-2024 05:15 AM
Wow, that sounds fantastic—exactly what I've dreamed of!! Simply editing YAML like a grown-up, with a real keyboard and editor, must be a thousand times easier than stuffing around with that clumsy UI on a phone, over and over again!! Please, how did you access the YAML? This is potentially the biggest time and hassle saver I've heard of for years!!

Wow, I created this a long time ago. Unreal that Google hasn't addressed it yet. So happy I sold the tablet. Keep fighting guys. I'm sure Google will fix this up any day now. 😂🤣😂 Zero **bleep**s Given.

Really poor from Google. Such a shame, I really want to continue to be pro-Google, but **bleep** like this - such an obvious requirement unaddressed for so long - makes it very hard.
07-13-2024 01:54 AM
THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY. I need to be able to change personal routine to be a household routine.
07-28-2024 10:55 PM
I’ve thought I must be daft not being able to change a personal routine to a household routine but can’t see how to do this despite people asking about this last year? Has nothing been done or am I missing something?
07-30-2024 01:03 PM
Nothing has been done and you're not missing anything. Welcome to Google.

Crazy this still is not solved...
Having dozens of devics and automations, this is truly crazy
