Chromecast not connecting to wifi

hfsaidi

I bought a new Chromecast with Google TV 4K version and I just can't make it connect to my wifi. Although I'm using the same wifi connection for both the phone and Chromecast but it keeps on throwing the error 'Couldn't connect to wifi' over and over again at the initial setup through the Google Home app. I'm totally stumped, please help.

I'm using the correct wifi password and the wifi router is placed within 5 feet of the Chromecast device. I've also tried the factory reset option but nothing works.

Hi hfsaidi,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. A few things: what is the make and model of the phone that you are using? What is the distance between your Chromecast and your Wi-Fi router? Are you using a dual band router? If so, have you tried both bands?

You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Chromecast for 30 seconds, then do the same thing on your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. If this did not fix the issue, try to uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app or try another phone to further isolate it.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni

Thank you Alex for getting back.

- I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S
- The distance between the Chromecast device and the router is approx 5 to 6 feet
- I'm using a single band i.e. 2.4 GHz because we only have support for this here in Pakistan
- I have tried to reset the Chromecast device once but I'm facing the same issue

The problem is when I get to the point (in the initial setup) where I need to insert the Wifi password to move to the next step, I get the message "Couldn't connect to Wi-fi" although I'm using the correct password (no doubts about that). I even changed the SSID/password on the router, and then tried to reconnect, but still the same error/message. It's really frustrating because I was excited to purchase and experience the new Google TV interface. But I can't even go past the initial setup!

Please help!

Hey hfsaidi,

Have you tried rebooting your router? If so, try to totally forget the network on your phone and reconnect after a few seconds. If the issue persists, check your router settings (AP isolation must be disabled and UPnP must be enabled).

Alex

Yes, I did reboot the router but still to no avail.
Alright, let me work on your suggested solution and see whether it works.
Will let you know if I get any results.

Thanks much!
