Connecting new thermostat to the Nest app?

Elcid88
Community Member

I have three cameras and a smoke installed in my home. All four devices can be seen on both the Nest app and Google Home app on my phone.
I tried to install a new Nest thermostat yesterday on the Nest app since that is where/how I installed the other devices last month. It kicked me over to the Google Home app where I was able to successfully install them. I can see them on this app and manage them but the new thermostat is not showing on my Nest app.
Any help would be appreciated.

@Elcid88

If you installed your thermostat in the Google Home app, you must have the Google Nest Thermostat, which does NOT appear in the Google Nest app. In contrast, the Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat get installed in the Google Nest app but then automatically also appear in the Google Home app (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9274936?hl=en).  I'm just another Google Nest customer and cannot explain Google Nest's 2-app approach.

Several weeks ago, Google Nest announced an upcoming upgrade to the Google Home app: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Recap-Introducing-the-new-Google-Home-app-and-Nest-devic.... I don't know whether it will help bring our Google Nest apps into one app.

That explains why it is not showing up on the Nest app. However, how can I access Google Home from a PC? I can get the app on my phone but would prefer to set up schedules on the PC. I cannot find Google Home in the Google Suite of apps on my Google login.
Thanks for helping!!

Hey there,

Thank you so much MplsCustomer for the helpful reply.

I wanted to jump in, and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with more details on your device, and how to control that. Please let me know if you have any questions from here.

Best regards,

Jake

@Elcid88

The Google Home app is not available on a PC. There is a preliminary https://home.google.com website but right now it only has camera live streaming and does not include other Google Nest devices.

Some customers have used an Android emulator (like Bluestacks: https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/how-to-use-google-home-app-for-pc/) to run the Google Home app on their PC. We don't have a PC so I can't speak to how well this third-party solution works.

I have figured out how to do a permanent or long term hold when I am away from my home.
However, how do I change a preset temp? For instance, it shows Eco as 82. How do I change that to 86?

Hey Elcid88,

I found an article that has all the details on Eco mode and how to change those settings. Depending on which app you are using, you will want to follow the steps in the article. Please let me know if that helps, or if you have any other questions from here.

Best regards,

Jake

I did and it worked!

However there was a power outage the other night and the thermostat is still showing as “offline” even though cameras and smoke detector are working.

i guess there is no way to get it back online remotely?

i am not very impressed with Nest compared to the Alarm.com systems I have in other locations

Hi Elcid88,

Sounds good! Thanks for keeping us posted. Troubleshooting your thermostat when it’s offline must be done physically as remote troubleshooting isn’t an option. Let us know when you get home so we can walk you through the troubleshooting steps. You may also follow the steps on this page: Nest thermostat is offline.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

JT

When I got back to the beach house I was easily able to get it to wake up and repair. Did have to change the batteries.
