I’ve had my Google mini and Chromecasts for some time, at leat 5 years. When I first set them up they worked nicely together, a show I ask to play it would, same with music, making alarms etc.
it seems that the Google assistant has now become the slacker in the race of entertainment technology as it now struggles with the most simplistic tasks.
More often than not, whenever prompting it do what hung something on my Chromecast from Netflix or Disney it fails to do anything, giving the usual ‘unable to do that’ response. What is even newer is the assistant saying it can’t play Netflix on an android tv?!?!?! What?! It’s been able to comply whenever I asked to to play The Big Bang Theory or similar shows on Nextflix, but now it can’t!!!
Google, pick your priorities. The home assistant thing obviously isn’t your focus anymore, as you haven’t updated the firmware in ages. Why haven’t you implemented AI into the program yet?
Why are every day normal tasks such an issues for your assistant?
Basically, step your **bleep** up Google, your putting yourself to shame, releasing another bloody Pixel **bleep** but leaving tech that people still use in their homes to degrade, defunct and fail at their core purpose.

Wow, thought it was just me, my wife and I were trying to set up a radio alarm on home hub display, every morning turn on the radio. We had an old one on there. Nothing created a new automation, nothing. My wife suggested getting an Alexa, as they just work. Disappointed with Google. 😞

So you're criticising the whole Google Home ecosystem because you cannot play something on Netflix or Disney? Maybe it's Netflix of Disney that's at fault. Or you're doing something wrong.
Considering you posted this problem in the 'Home Automation' section of the community instead of under 'Streaming' then you could well be at fault.
There's usually more than one way to do something until a bug is fixed. Like using another app to cast to the Streaming device or using the remote control.
