Google Home Presence Sensing is not showing in settings

Hi,

I've two "google nest audio" , a chromecast, some wifi power plugs and some smart light stripps at my new smart home.  I'm using my android phone / the home app to control everything. My daughter is also able to control the devices with her android phone. Everything works quite smoothly... except for the Presence Sensing. In "Settings" there is no option / menu item that would allow me to configure my home/phone presence sensing (aka Geofencing).

The normal procedure would be

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap "Settings"  > P"resence sensing". (THIS MENU ITEM IS NOT AVAILABLE)
  3. Turn on or off Allow this home to use phone locations.

I've searched the net for any glues why I don't have this option:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10000312?hl=en

  • You’ve set location permissions for the Home App on your phone to Always on (CHECK, Is always on)

I've found a weird video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bhXiYHilQE that showed a guy with the same problem. After he installed a czech App and connected the google  home app with a virtual device via compatible devices... google home suddenly showed this menu item. In my desparation I've even tried this dubious approach but was unfortunately not really successful.

How do I get this menu item "Presence sensing" / geo fencing running in my home app?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Christoph

I've solved it. It seems that you've to manually add a "home" or an "away" routine so that the setup for "home" and away" routine is offered. After going through this setuo routine geo fencing is enabled.

Nevertheless it is a bug or bad usability issue that this setup is only offered  when you manually create a routine with this specific name. I think this was caused by a bad installation / bad setup where I initially refused the geo location rights to the home app... later on when I've allowed it it didn't became available. Also a reinstall of the app didn't solve this.... it remembered the previous configuration / setting. The only remedy: Give geo location rights "always" add manually a "Away" routine.
