Google Home 'Unable to put the device into your home' error

I've got a Google Nest display, plus android phones/tablets plus an iPad.

All have Google Home app on them.

I have Phillips hue bridge plus about 5 smart bulbs, plus broadlink smart plugs.

All were working fine until recently, when Googoe home seemed to 'lose' some of my devices. It lost two Phillips hue bulbs, and all the broadlink smart plugs. I've readded them, but the readded ones all now show under Devices as 'Linked to you', but not in a room.

If I try to select any of the devices, and go to Settings, they show the device name, but under Home, it shows 'Add to a home'

If I select this, and it displays my Home, and I click Next, It say Added to Home. I then click Move device, and select the room to move the device into I get an error message saying 'there was a problem communicating with Google. Please wait a few momen...' rest of message is truncated.

Trying again later makes no difference. Always same error. Device state as 'Linked to you'

This happens for ANY of these 'orphaned' devices, all devices were, and still are on same WiFi network. Rebooting router makes no difference. Even tried dialing 5ghz bend on router to see if they are confused by the presence of both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bags. No difference

If I try the alternative some have suggested, off going to Google Home, Settings, and select Devices, groups and rooms, then choose a room (any of the 5 rooms defined) it shows the devices already in that room, then I pick Choose devices.

It lists all devices not already in that room, so I pick one, and click Save. Same error message was before.

Sometimes it shows 'unable to put the device into your room'

Been like this for days now.

What's going on here?

Hi DwvidIT,

That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let’s further look into it. Do you have any home members in your home structure? If yes, can they move the devices to a room within their Google Home app?

Try doing these steps:

  • Unlink the Philips Hue and the Broadlink app from the Google Home app.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app. Log in.
  • Create a new home structure > Link your smart devices, and then try to assign them to their rooms.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex
