Google Home not connecting to network

Help! We changed our modem and now my google home and nest will not connect. I have restored to factory settings, removed the device and reinstalled it with the google home app. It’s connected to the correct wifi. Nothing is working and the google help articles are of no help whatsoever. I want to throw both devices out the window.

I have the same problem and want to throw all of the devices out the window.  So frustrating.  Google destroyed the brilliance of the nest camera network.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out to our community space, and I'm sorry to hear you're running into some trouble with your Google Home devices trying to connect with your new modem, and thank you for trying to troubleshoot the issue yourself. I'm here to help you figure out what's going on and find a solution together.

To help you further, please provide the following information.

  • What is the model of your Google Home devices?
  • When did this behavior first begin?
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area?
  • Have you tried connecting the Google Home devices to a different power source?
  • What is your smartphone's model?
  • How many Google Home devices do you currently have?
  • Are there any other devices experiencing the same problem?
  • May I know what the error message is that you receive when you try to connect your Google Home devices to your new modem?
  • How far is the modem from your Google Home devices?
  • Apart from resetting the settings and deleting and adding the device in the Google Home app, what other steps have you tried?
  • May I know who the internet provider is?

Thank you for your attention. I await your response.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

I have two devices, a google home mini and a Google Home

The behavior started after I changed modems because the old one was old and needed replacing.

No power outages

I have not tried connecting to a different power source. The are both connected directly into a wall outlet

I have an iPhone 12 - please note that the home app is working fine because I was able to connect one of my three devices.

The third device is working and all other devices in my home are working. It is only the one mini and the one google home having difficulties.

Every time I go through the steps to connect the google home tells me that my device isn't connected and visit the google home app to connect to wifi. The issue is, it is connected to wifi, I can see it's connected and it's the right wifi account. The mini cannot connect at all. It just keeps saying that it cannot connect at this time

I am in an apartment so the modem is just in the other room. The devices have been working fine for years with the modem exactly where it is now.

I have followed all the steps to connect numerous times and nothing works.

Thank you for your timely response and the comprehensive information you've provided.

We'll be troubleshooting your Google Home devices as follows, and let me know how it works.

  • Reboot the device.
  • Reboot the WiFi router.
  • Check if that works. If the issue persists, continue with the next steps.
  • If the issue persists, perform a factory reset.
