Google Home not sending phone notifications

DennisBo
Community Member

I have a Google Nest battery camera setup on my Google Home account and for a while was receiving notifications from the app to my phone (pixel 6, Android 13), but stopped receiving them after about a week with the device. I can go into the app and view history, see live feeds, check battery status, etc. but do not get notifications if a person enters my zone (as I have defined in the app). My wife receives notifications through the app and has never experienced an issue - she has the same phone model.

I have tried every conceivable troubleshooting idea - deleting app, toggling notifications on and off, restart phone and toggle off, remove device and add back to home. Nothing is working, ideas?

@DennisBo

Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app on your phone?

Yes, I've tried that several times. To add on, my settings are mirror images of my wife's settings.

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help.

@DennisBo, thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. It looks like you've already done a good amount of troubleshooting with this issue. Could you once more toggle the camera notifications off, then back on again at the Google Home app under your phone settings? Check the steps below.

Go to your phone settings > Select Apps > look for Google Home > tap Notifications > then toggle Camera notifications Off then On again.

If that did not fix it try this step in sequence.

  1. Clear the app's cache.
  2. Restart the phone.
  3. Reinstall app.
Note: Make sure to check these settings after you re-installs the app.
    1. Background app refresh is on.
    2. Do Not Disturb is off.
    3. The app and phone OS are up-to-date.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni,

Thanks for your message.  I tried both sequences and neither worked to send notifications to my phone when I went in front of my camera.

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi DennisBo,

Thanks for trying that. Sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. To further isolate the issue could you try to use another phone and see if this will make a difference?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni,

Yes, my wife also has a Pixel 6 and is connected to the camera. She has always received notifications without issue.  I have the settings on my phone mirror to hers, but I still do not receive the notifications.

Hi there,

Got it. How about deleting your activity zone and creating a new one. Once done, observe if this will fix it.

Let me know how it goes.

Juni

Hi there,

Thanks for the update.

Could you try turning on the permission of your Google Home app in your phone settings? Also, make sure all notification types are enabled in your Google Home app.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Alex
