Google Nest Audio pair, 1 speaker no lights when listening

Hi,

I have searched online and have not found this before, but I am experiencing some odd behaviour with a new pair of Nest Audio speakers.

When they are paired, one of the speakers has no lights when it's listening, but the lights come on when it responds or I turn the volume up. I have reset both speakers in the pair a couple of times, and when they are unpaired, both the speaker's lights come on when Google is listening. Is this some odd bug, or standard behaviour?

I do also have a hub max in the same room, and I even switched off its mic to make sure that wasn't picking me up instead, it's a bit odd. Any ideas?

Hi Nsouth22,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.

When 2 speakers are paired, your Assistant functions and responds (only) on the left speaker. Is this the behavior you are seeing on your Google Nest Audio pair? If yes, then you are experiencing the normal behavior of the pair. You can also visit the article on how to Pair two speakers for stereo sound.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex_S,

Thanks for coming back to me and thanks for confirming this is normal.

I searched for ages as I was hoping it wasn't a fault, but I didn't reference that it was only the left speaker which was responding in my search query.

Thanks for the speedy response!

Only one speaker in a pair has the mic active. This is expected behavior, and you're told about it when you select which speaker you want to be the right and left channel. To see for sure, go to your speaker pair and separate the pair. Then, when you re-pair them, you'll see that information.
