Google Nest Hub brief response to commands

How do I turn off responses from my nest hub? When I tell it to play the radio, I dont want to hear it respond with "ok playing radio on tunein"  for example. I just want it to play the radio and not answer. Is this possible? I've read about "speech output" and brief responses, but that option is nowhere to be found in the Home app.

Brief Responses (Brief Mode) is Alexa language.

Speech/Text Output is I think phone responses.

There used to be a way where could mute the volume, but I don't think that works anymore.

To minimise the introduction you could set the speaker volume to 1%, add a delay and then reset volume to normal.

I use Amazon Echo speakers and Media Alarms where the music just starts playing radio/music without any introduction.

Hi bingobot,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I appreciate your inquiry about how to turn off responses from your Nest Hub. I understand that you just want your Nest Hub to play the radio without the answer to your command. No worries, help is here.

When you turn off Speech Output, your Google Assistant will show you responses on your phone, but it won't say them out loud. If you want to stop your Google Assistant from replying with sound, you can change your settings.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open “Settings.”
  2. Tap “Google services & preferences.”
  3. Under "All services," tap “Search, Assistant & Voice,” then “Voice,” then “Speech output.”
  4. To stop the Assistant from replying with sound, tap “None."

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi Virna,

I found the settings you pointed out, under assistant & voice I turned off Speech output so it says "none".

But this didnt affect my Google Nest Hub sadly. Is there anything else I have to do after step 4?

Hi bingobot,

Thanks for coming back to this community. I’m sorry to hear that we couldn’t turn off the “Speech output” even though you followed the instructions provided. It is my pleasure to continue assisting you to turn off responses from your Nest Hub.

Before I start providing assistance, I have a few questions for you:

  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone device to control your Nest Hub?
  • How long have you been using your Nest Hub?
  • What's the Nest Hub firmware version?

In the meantime, I recommend you follow the next instructions:

  • Remove the Google Home app from your mobile device.
  • Reinstall the Google Home app on your mobile device.
  • Verify that the "Speech output" mode is still off.
  • Check if you now can command without listening to the response to your command.
  • If the inconvenience persists, please reboot your mobile device and try again if it is possible to command without listening to the response.
  • If the previous steps don’t help you to turn off the “Speech output” mode, please reboot your Nest Hub.

Thanks for your kind attention. I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi Virna

my model is Nest Hub II (2nd gen)

I've used it since november 2023

System Firmware version is 24.20241009.103.2300

Cast firmware is 3.76.448685

I have now reinstalled Home app, speech output is set to "none". Phone is rebooted, Nest Hub is rebooted.

The Nest Hub is still responding to everything, from starting a timer to playing a song on youtube music..

What is wrong here?
