My Away routine has stopped working recently. Away routine controls the outdoor and indoor cameras that are not switching on when I leave home.  I don't know whats causing it and how to fix it.

- Presence sensing is enabled and I can see that the Google home recognises that my phone has left home (however doesn't trigger the routine automatically)

- if I manually enable the routine and when I come home the Home routine triggers correctly.

I have already deleted and reinstalled the app. Also, deleted my Home and re-added all the cameras. Few screenshots attached, hopefully someone can point if any configuration issues.

- Google Home app (version 2.59.211) on Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.0.2

Issue seem to have resolved it self. I suspect it's a IOS 16 issue. I upgraded to an iOS16 around the time routine stopped working... Installed the latest iOS 16.0.3 couple of days back and now routine is working fine.

No other change made apart from the iOS update.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, I would love to look into this further for you. Have you made any changes to your routines recently? Have you made sure that your app is updated, and your devices are all up to date on their software? Also, I would check to make sure that your Home + Away settings are working correctly. I have a great article that should provide some additional information for you.

Best regards,

Brad

Hi Brad, thanks for looking into this. There have been no changes made from my end. The app and the iPhone are running the latest software versions. I have received the article and have confirmed the away and location settings are set up correctly. As you can see in the screenshot in the post Google home detects that my phone has left home however downer starts the away routine. If I start the away routine manually it is switched off automatically by the home routine once I get back home. I can see the phone leaving home and coming back in the history of the app.

Hello - I am having the same issue.  I contacted Google support and they can't figure out what is going on.  I have not made any changes and it stopped working.  When I leave the app will sense I have left but it won't change the status to away.  I manually change it to away and when I come back the status changes to home automatically.

I updated my device to iOS 16.0.3 yesterday and it is still not working.  Did you do anything else after the upgrade?

I've also added Google Home app to always allowed under Settings > Screen times > Always allowed

@Brad

Yes, I have restarted my device as well as reset the away option on the nest thermostat.  The home automation works fine but away does not work.

@tae180

Have you attempted to delete the routine or schedule, turn off home +away, and removed the device then add it back in? I understand this is a lot of work, but that has worked for some users.

Best regards,

Brad

This is the away routine under "Household Routines" which doesn't allow you to delete it.  I have tried to remove the actions and readded the action but no luck.

I've had a similar experience very recently, except I've not upgraded to iOS16 yet.

It seems like suddenly Google Home invalidates your location settings, even though it's enabled on the device.

Waking up to 24 notifications from your cat, when Google Home shows you're Home is very frustrating.

I just disabled and reenabled my location settings in the app and things started to function normally.
