Google multiroom compatible devices

Is there a list of devices that can be combined in google speaker groups?

I want to know what speakers work seamlessly with the other google/nest speakers. I want to be able to add a soundbar and/or  AV receiver to my existing google speaker groups, consisting of google home and nest speakers.

Is there a list of devices that are compatible with google speaker groups?

Is there a list of devices that are compatible with the google multiroom system?

I searched around but could only find this short list from a third party. Can anyone confirm this list or add any additional products?

Hey kittermant,

Yes — you're right! Speakers that have a Chromecast built-in feature can be added to a speaker group so that you can play the same audio throughout your house. Additional information this feature doesn't work on Bose or Sonos speakers that have the Google Assistant.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey kittermant

Thanks for reaching out.

To create a speaker group, you would need 2 or more of the devices listed below. You can group speakers, Smart Displays, and Smart Clocks in any combination. You can also check this guide how to create a speaker group.

  • Google Nest and Home speakers and displays
  • Chromecast (2nd generation and above)
  • Devices with Google Assistant
  • Chromecast Audio
  • Speakers with Chromecast built-in
  • Google Nest Wifi point

Note:

  • This feature isn't supported on Chromecast (1st Gen).
  • Playing the news or listening to the radio is now supported in speaker groups.
  • Music providers that support voice casting on individual devices are now supported in speaker groups.

Thanks,

Alex

Best,

I'm sorry I didn't see your response before.

Oh just to confirm what you're saying is that any speaker that's marketed and labeled as "Chromecast built-in" and be added to a Google speaker group independently and will work seamlessly with the other Google home, Google nest, nest wifi speakers I have?

I read online that bose now supports Chromecast built-in. That any existing Bose speakers that connect to their app will get an update in now have Chromecast built in. Can you confirm?

Hey kittermant,

Unfortunately, we don't have access to Bose speakers, as long as it's written on their specification that it has a built-in Chromecast it can be added to the speaker. If the Bose speakers have only Google Assistant, it might not work when added to the group. Also, speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.

Thanks,

Alex
