Google nest causing EXTREMELY high electricity bill

My apartment complex has recently switched from a regular thermostat to a google nest thermostat. This year was the first summer using this device. Since the transfer, my bill has skyrocketed! I don't understand how my electric bill is so high when this device is supposed to save money as apposed to causing my expenses to increase. I don't know what to do but this will definitely not work. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how I could resolve this issue? Please help, thank you.

• What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
• What type of HVAC system do you have?
• Where in your home is the Nest thermostat installed?
• When was the last time your HVAC system had a maintenance service and cleaning?
• Have you set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat?
• Could you please send me a picture of the Nest thermostat's wiring?
