Google screwed Google Home users big time. Biggest consumer betrayal in history. That is all.

The breadth of the failure is stunning and egregious, and the issues are too many to list. People have integrated this technology into their homes and their lives in good faith and have come to depend on it. GOOGLE has wantonly betrayed their trust on almost every level. Add your personal negative experiences to this thread. Don't hold back.

I don't feel that way. I haven't put all my eggs in one basket.

I have Alexa and Google devices spread throughout and if one system drops the ball the other picks it up and runs with it. And vice-versa.

I'm confused. Do you have overlapping subscriptions with a bank of doorbells at each entryway from different manufacturers in case one brand fails? How do your guests know which button to press? Thermostats, cameras, all in pairs?

Both Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hubs can view cameras from Reolink and Tuya.

Both systems have advantages and disadvantages.

I don't have or really need a doorbell.

In Australia we don't have thermostats.

But, I do have Reolink cameras that work with both Google and Alexa.

Recently...

  • Google began announcing that motion is detected on all cameras, but there looks to be a motion starter to trigger Automations in the future (hopefully 🤞).
  • Alexa can trigger routines on two of my newer cameras.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand your situation better now. You haven't fully committed to investing in Google's proprietary hardware beyond a few minis and hubs. The problem is that I have, along with 27% of US households. Many of the purchased items are now turning into bricks.

I'm talking about Google brand doorbells that were apparently designed to SHUT OFF and REBOOT whenever the doorbell is pressed, killing the bell and the view of the visitor. Seriously?!

I'm talking about "security" cameras with a two-minute feed delay, going offline every two minutes, and now totally unable to stream to monitors BY COERCIVE DESIGN.
...Expensive thermostats that are no longer supported due to planned obsolescence... Households loaded with smart speakers in every room that are getting dumber by the day, now that users are locked in.

These are all items that I spent a fortune on. These are devices that initially worked okay and were supposed to assist members of my family, including those with special needs. I purchased them en masse based on the [broken] promise of dependability.

It all turned out to be a scam. That's my position.

In hindsight buying third party devices is usually the best option. People assumed that if you buy "Google" or "Amazon" branded product you should get optimal performance and reliability.

Fortunately in Australia we didn't have early access to the Nest Hello doorbell and Amazon Basics.

If you think about it how much have you spent on new phones over the last 7 to 10 years? I've had to buy 3 smartphones because of battery or 3G, 4G and 5G.

The first smart device I bought was Belkin WeMo which is also being discontinued.
