Hands-Free / Accessibility Questions

Dwayne1

Hello.  I have several questions about the Google Nest paired with an Android mobile phone.  These questions are on behalf of a disabled person who CANNOT use their hands and fingers at all.  So, I am looking for a COMPLETELY hands-free solution (no fingers required AT ALL) for the following:

1.  Will it announce an incoming phone call?

2.  Will it give the user the option of either answering or ignoring the incoming call?

3.  If the call is answered, can it / will it automatically turn on the speakerphone?

4.  Will it announce and read incoming texts?

5.  Will it offer the option of responding to an incoming text?

6.  Will it read back any response before that response is sent?

7.  Will it allow a user to make outgoing calls?

8.  Will it automatically turn on the speakerphone when an outgoing call is being made?

9.  will it allow a user to send outgoing texts?

Does Google Assistant enable all of the above?  If not, are there are 3rd-party apps that do the functions that Google Assistant may not be able to do?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hey Dwayne1,

Thanks for reaching out — we'd love to answer your questions.

1. With Google Nest and Home speakers and displays, you can make calls to friends, family, and businesses with your voice. With Duo calling, speakers and displays can make and receive video or voice calls to anyone who has a Duo account. You can visit this link for more information about Make calls with your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.

2. Announcing, reading and sending text aren't supported. You might want to check creating an applet in IFTTT. Check this guide for more information.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Alex

The information provided has helped somewhat, but I am still not clear on whether or not
an incoming phone call and/or incoming text can be answered strictly by voice.  It sounds
like most of the stuff that can be done -- when it comes to texting and phone calls
-- is outgoing and I need a solution whereby an incoming phone call is announced and the
person is given the option of answering the call or ignoring the call and if the call is answered,
the speakerphone either turns on automatically or that the person can turn it on by voice.
Thank you.

Hey Dwayne1,

Sending and receiving text on Google Home or Google Nest speakers and displays are not supported.

For mobile calling, your device can only make calls but can't receive any calls on the device. However, in Duo calling you can make or receive calls from contacts who also have a Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), or Google Nest Hub Max or the Duo app on their mobile device. When a Duo customer calls their display, it will not use Face Match to automatically connect the call. Instead, they must tap the screen or issue a voice command to accept the call.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Alex
