Have to Press Chromecast Remote Power Button Twice

jim10011

When using my Google Chromecast remote to turn on my Chromecast I have to hit the power button twice. But only once to turn it off. I have removed and then re-added the remote but it did not help. I also did a factory reset. And I replaced the batteries with new ones.

Hi jim10011,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your Chromecast remote concern. A few questions: when did it begin? What Chromecast device do you own? Could you also confirm if this is how you did the reset? Check out the link below.

How to factory reset your Chromecast voice remote

Hi Alex,

I got the new remote, thank you. However, the new remote is having the same issue. I'm at a loss.

This happens to me as well. It started with a remote update several months ago. It seems the remote aggressively goes to sleep, which is why it requires one press to wake it up, and another to transmit the command. It is not limited to power in my case. Any time the remote is not touched for a while it goes to sleep. It is quite infuriating.

Hello everyone,

Jim10011, I’m sorry to hear about this. Kindly reply to the same email our team has sent you so they can further look into it.

Gooworsewithage, kindly try to troubleshoot the Chromecast Voice Remote. Monitor its behavior and let me know how it goes.

Kind regards,
Alex

I have done all of that multiple times on all three of my chromecasts. This is a bug.

I had this, and I found the answer myself.

From Home, go to Settings wheel, then Bluetooth.  Then down to Setup remote buttons. Then arrow right to Power button, and over on the right, you want the IR version for your brand of TV.  So for me, my four choice are Auto (CEC), TV (CEC), Chromecast, and Samung (IR).  I needed to change from what it had selected on its own, the first Auto one, to the last one, Samsung IR.  That fixed it.

I have the same issue. The remote is powering up the TV from the second press. It is the same on my two Panasonic TVs so it is a bug. How can I fix this? It seems that the remote is going to sleep and I must press the power button to wake it up and after that, I must press it again to power up the TV. I can control my TV only via CEC IR is not an option, the codes are not working.
