How can I seperate my devices from my landlord's devices?

My landlord and I share internet and everytime he plays music or cast a video to any of his devices it shows up on my phone. How can I seperate his devices/ hide them without going through the trouble and cost of setting up my own wifi?

Thanks

Hi @cToro

If you are on the same WiFi network, this will be complicated.

Can't the landlord set up a different WiFi SSID for your use only?
For example, set up a guest network.

Security and privacy-wise, this setup is not recommended. Your being on the same network gives your landlord access to your connected systems. 🙄

Google Nest has some access and security problems when using the same Wi-Fi. If I go to my son's house and bring up the Google Home app while connected to his Wi-Fi, I see SOME of his Google Nest devices along with the ones in our Google Nest "home/structure" even though neither of us is a member of the other's "household".

Thing is, in my country at least it is more common to share internet when you rent an apartment because internet is often included in the rent. I think there should be a setting to hide devices that are not yours and restrict access to own devices (I think this exists). But setting up a guest network will be a good choice, thanks for your help

Hi cToro,

I understand. While the option to restrict access to your device when connected to the same network isn't an option, it would be best to send feedback about this using the Google Home app. Here's how. Let me know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best regards,

Dan
