How can I use Google Home app with a hotmail address?

I was invited by my landlord to connect to the Google Home app to change the thermostat settings, however when opening the app, the login page only allows me to go to Gmail, and I cannot enter my email and password there (it only gives me error). How can I login to the Google Home app using my hotmail account? Or do I need to create a personal google account just to get access to the thermostat?

Unfortunately, you need a Google (gmail) account to logon to the Google Home app:
