Matter Support for 3rd-gen Nest Learning Thermostat

Where is Matter support for the more expensive 3rd-gen Nest Learning Thermostat? Is there a time frame for when Matter support for the other Nest thermostats will be rolled out? It would be great for Google to communicate it's intentions. If they have no intentions of providing Matter support for 2nd and 3rd gen Nest Learning thermostats then it at least allows us, the consumers, to make some informed decisions. I look forward to your response.

I think it's time that a company starts building some hardware based on common tooling that is open source - Allow people the option to contribute. Make pretty hardware and make it easy to use for normies, (including a cloud service) but easy to customize for tech minded people.

I am afraid that Google somehow would manage to screw it to:)

Google just announced their 4th gen Learning Thermostat with Matter integration. It is fair to say at this point that all of us can go f**k ourselves with our expensive 3rd Gen. This is the last time I buy anything made by Google and hope they stay out of buying other companies like they did with Nest if it’s to treat its customers that way. No thank you and goodbye!

Yep. It would’ve been trivial for them to add matter over WiFi on the 3rd gen but nah.

Like others in this thread, I was excited to read that the Google Nest Thermostat had Matter support, and I mistakenly assumed the more expensive and feature-rich Nest learning thermostat would be the one with it. Matter is a key feature for me, so I will procure a thermostat with it, if Google fails to add it to mine. But if Google thinks I will buy a 4th Gen (or any other Google hardware!), they are sadly mistaken. I will take my business to a company that supports its existing products instead of just rolling out new ones.

Google could still be that company if it releases a 3rd Gen firmware update with Matter support for its older Nest learning thermostats. Or at least a convincing explanation of why that is impractical. In other words, supporting older hardware is an excellent selling point for newer hardware.

SERIOUSLY GOOGLE, YOU CLAIM THE 3RD GEN IS GOING TO GET MATTER THEN YOU RELEASE A 4TH GEN WITH MATTER.  MEANWHILE THE $300 3RD GEN STILL HAS NO MATTER AFTER LIKE 2 YEARS OF DECEIVING PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING WE WOULD GET MATTER.  I WILL NEVER BUY GOOGLE AGAIN.  IM GLAD YOU LOST THE ANTITRUST LAWSUIT, YOU CANT BE TRUSTED!!!

I'm out too.  I would never consider another hardware purchase from Google.

Ahhh so now we know why it hasn’t been implemented yet. Google want to try and sell us their new smart learning thermostat!

Thermostats are really a piece of infrastructure, not consumer tech. If someone invested a lot of money in a 3rd gen smart thermostat last year, they’re not going to upgrade now. This isn’t the smartphone market guys.

Please add matter support to the gen 3 and reclaim a little integrity and respect from consumers. Until then I’ll hold off buying any more Google Nest home devices.

Master support please.

Typical behaviour... They've been promising an update for the last 2 years, now release a new version and will most likely have no more interest in updating previous generations. That way they hope customers will buy the latest model. And Google-fans think Apple is bad? At least Apple keeps a 4-5 year update promise...

Okay, guess I’ll jump on the replace my Nest bandwagon, I have 2. Any suggestions? Ecobee? Is Honeywell Matter compatible?

After all this time there still isn't a way to schedule my heating from the Home app.  I still need to do it in the ancient (and soon to be discontinued Nest App).  If Google can't be bothered to add it to the Home app then the very least they can do is add Matter to the 3rd gen thermostat so I can use it in a difference smart home ecosystem.

Now that they have brought out the next generation they will just kill it off.

I will never buy another Google product.  You lie and don’t care about your customers.  I hope a class action lawsuit is filed against you on this absolute scam.  OpenAI is going to crush you anyways which is karma.
