Nest 3rd Generation Thermostat taking over 1+ hr just to cool from 71 to 70 degrees

I recently installed Nest 3rd Generation Thermostat , and I am experiencing an issue with cooling performance. It has been taking over an hour or more just to cool from 71 to 70 degrees regardless of the time of the day. In addition, all scheduling is currently turned off, so this isn't being caused by a programmed settings.

This slow performance is leading to higher energy bills, so I'd appreciate your help in troubleshooting and resolving this issue as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hi Vickbek,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I'm sorry to hear that your new Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) is taking over an hour just to cool by one degree and your concern about this leading to higher energy bills. I appreciate you letting me know that scheduling is not the cause, as this is very helpful. I'd be happy to help.

Before I start further troubleshooting, I'd like to ask you a few questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Are you getting any error message or code on the display of the thermostat?
  • What have you done to resolve the issue?
  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Have you checked your Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system's compatibility with your Nest thermostat through the Compatibility Checker tool?"
  • What kind of HVAC system do you have? (e.g., Heat pump, conventional system, etc.)
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Does the issue happen with heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Do you have a common ground wire or C wire?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?

Could you please check the power readouts on your thermostat and post only the power information? To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Press the thermostat's ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to Technical info and press to select. Then, select Power.
  4. Please post the following information: battery, Voc, and Vin.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna
