Ok, so we just moved. We moved from where we had fiber internet to the country where there is no option for high speed internet other than satellite and 4G. (I have both and use both.) Problem with the satellite and the 4G is that there are data caps. I can't hook up a camera and have it constantly uploading video to a cloud server because it will eat through my data.
The new house has a pool. I like the google nest cameras because it has facial recognition. I was thinking I could put a nest camera covering the pool and then, if it detects motion, I'll get a pop-up on my phone letting me know which of my kids are out there.
But, I need the nest camera to not be uploading video 24x7 to the cloud. It can only upload when it detects motion. Can it work like that?

Perhaps you could get a Nest Aware subscription (where you get event history only) rather than a Nest Aware Plus subscription (where you get 24/7 history). Keep in mind that--based on posts in this forum--the new Google Nest Camera (Battery) seems to be late in detecting events when running on battery power (rather than plugged in all the time) and the new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) seems to be late in detecting events because it always runs on battery power even when wired. The older Google Nest cameras don't seem to have this problem.
