Nest Doorbell (1st gen, wired) & Google Mini (1st gen)

So...I've just finally gotten around to setting up my Nest Doorbell & Mini; found them in an old box after they were lost a few years back.

It took a bit to get the doorbell working, but it is up and running like a champ.  We have an OLD NuTone chime box; I was thinking of replacing it with something a bit more "modern".  What's the best option for this doorbell?

I also had a Google Mini (1st gen) that I set up.  It appears that there's no way to get visitor announcements on the Amazon Echo series from the 1st gen doorbell, so I figured I'd try a Mini.  Thing is...I didn't get anything when I pressed the doorbell.  I checked to make sure visitor announcements were turned on; is there some other setting somewhere that I'm missing that would enable the Nest Doorbell to send visitor announcements over the Mini?

What's the current expected lifespan for Google's home automation ecosystem?  I've been thinking of moving away from Alexa.

Lastly, anything I should know about any of this Google home automation equipment?

Is your Nest Mini set to "Do not disturb"?  Are your doorbell and Nest Mini in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Wi-Fi network?  Otherwise, maybe you just wait a couple of days until Google Nest pushes out firmware updates. The firmware is probably pretty old if it's been sitting on a shelf for quite awhile.

Actually, I think you may be right - it started to announce just a few minutes ago, all on its own.

Now I just need to replace these awful Nutone chimes….
