Nest Stopped Understanding Combined Commands

sQualie
Community Member

About a week ago, my 2 Nests have stopped accepting combined commands.  For over 2 years I've been telling it to "turn off the kitchen and turn on the bedroom" but it's now telling me it doesn't understand. When I break down the commands, everything works fine, but I can't combine anymore.  Tried rebooting both Nests but it's the same.  What's going on and how can I fix this?

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about this issue here. We are getting similar reported issues like this, and the team would like to gather some additional information to isolate the issue.

  • Provide the specific Google Home and Nest device that you have together with the firmware version.
  • Where are you located

It would also be helpful for the team's investigation if you could send feedback using the keywords,"GHT3 Multiple commands not working." For more instructions on how to send feedback via your Google Home/Nest devices, check this out

Looking forward to your responses and I'll update the thread once I have additional information.

Cheers,

Muddi

Also noticed this start happening for me 2 days ago, along with the millions of "sorry, something went wrong, try again in a few seconds." (Always the first ask every 5 minutes)

Hi Muddi,

I'm in Canada, my Google Home Minis are both are model H2C with firmware 299498,  but Google even stopped accepting combined commands on my Galaxy S21 running Android 12 with One UI 4.1, - and my #1 combined command was "Turn off the Kitchen and Turn on the Bedroom".  I've now set a routine to do this, but I don't get why it suddenly stopped understanding combined commands when it's been doing it flawlessly for 2 years.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for responding.

For those who are still experiencing the same, let's go ahead and perform a complete reset to your Google Nest speakers and set it up again. Let's check if the reset will make any changes on its behavior.

By any chance that its behavior remains the same, kindly get the cast firmware vesion of your Google Nest speaker so we can check further.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

1. Definitely the same account

5. Firmware: 1.56.299498

(Speaker type: Nest Audio)

Just had this happen again 2 days ago, sent feedback by saying "Okay Google, Send Feedback, GHT3 Multiple commands not working".

Hi Jsilvermist,

Thanks! Will keep this thread open and will update here once fixed.

As of today, and maybe yesterday, it seems to be currently working

"Turn on the light and change it to incandescent" worked fine this morning, where it had been doing one or the other before.

🙂 Thanks.

Hie all.

Recently Google products have not been able to execute 2 commands at once. It's not just the hubs, even the Assistant on my phone is unable to do this.

I'm wondering if it's just me or is there anyone else?

Having the same problem. I used to be able to run 2 or 3 commands at once. I've noticed over the past week or two, when I try it, it says sorry I don't understand. Have to run multiple single commands.

Is there any ETA for this?  it is the AND command that no longer gets recognised as the break for the next request.  It is at the back end as it’s effecting all Google Assistant devices, hubs, TV’s, phones, etc.

Working again today!  Thank you. 👍🏻

I realise this has theoretically been fixed, but I am still having this issue. "turn on the desk lamp and make it incandescent" completes the colour change (which I know when I turn the light on) but not the switching on. So it does the last command.

Should I start my own thread?

Hi FibroJedi,

Thanks for the update. If you can try other combined commands, I'd like to check if it is working. Could you please tell us first the exact commands that you're using so we can further isolate the issue?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

Hey, it worked for the first time in many days this morning, but I would expect it to be erratic again later. These issues tend to recur periodically.

I'll do some random tests and get back to you, it's usually related to turning a light on/off and another command. I'll reply again once I've had chance. Thanks.

Hi FibroJedi,

Thanks for getting back to us. I'll keep this thread open for 3 more days and will wait for your update.

Princess

I think just close it and I'll open a new one later. The reason is that, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. The same is also true of Continued Conversation triggering after a command or not. So it's hard to get consistent results to be able to report them. A tad frustrating, but better that than leave a ticket hanging open. Thanks 🙂

Sorry to say, it has stopped working again.  Same issue, the problem is at the back end as all My Assistant devices have stopped accepting commands with AND in them replying with Sorry I don’t understand.   What’s going on guys?

Having the same issue, started sometime on Monday this week. I was not experiencing the issue when the first posts started appearing ~3 weeks ago though, so seems to be impacting more, or at least different devices than the first time.

I spoke with whoever was on the  @madebygoogle  Twitter account, and they said others have reported similar behaviour recently. In addition, they said:

"While we're working on a stable fix, best to submit a verbal feedback report by saying "OK Google, send feedback" followed by "GHT3 Multiple commands not working". Make sure that the "Send device usage data and crash reports to Google" is toggled on from your device's settings before sending it. Here's your guide: https://goo.gle/3aC7zWz"

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for updating us.

@FibroJedi, we appreciate your help.

Our team is already aware of this and working on a stable fix. We'll make sure to update this thread as soon as we have some news to share.

Best,

Thank you @Princesss, though @Muzza seems to be sorted, it still isn't for me. I'm patient though, so happy to wait for a stable, more permanent solution.

Others are welcome to verify this is an Assistant issue and not a device issue by directly typing a AND command into Assistant on their phone or tablet…for example I just typed in…..

Turn on the kitchen lights and turn off the dining lamp

reply is…Sorry, I don’t understand

Update: all working fine again.

It took longer to start working again for me, but it's also fine for me now.
