I have a Carrier heat pump with electric auxiliary strip heat. Installed a Nest gen. 3 thermostat today. Once the battery charged up and set-up was done, the following happened:
1. When I set it for A/C, the compressor ran off and on, and the fan did not come on.
2. When I set it for heat, the fan ran off and on, but the compressor did not run.
3. When I set it high enough to call for auxiliary heat, the heating elements heated but the fan still ran off and on.
Since the house was beginning to warm up (live near Gulf coast), I put the old thermostat back on and it's running normally.
WIres are: Y1, G, W1, W2, C, and RH. There is no wire to the O/B slot, Carrier defaults to O.
Another annoyance is when the thermostat is mounted onto the base, it doesn't always "click" on properly. Then the push to enter function is sticky and it causes random reboots. Once that is corrected, operation is smooth.
Any thoughts on this?
Update 11/4/22: Charged thermostat all night through USB port, reinstalled, did a reset (off/on only). Screen displayed that a wiring change was detected. Now fan runs properly, auxiliary heats works, but on call for either heat or cool, compressor does not kick on.

I finally returned the thermostat after I had to have a service call due to a blown blade fuse. The service tech could not get it to work, either.
