Nest app can’t recognize my iPhone for location

Jbaugh4663

I am unable to use my iPhone for the Nest app to determine my location to determine if I am home or away.   The app message says, “

It’s been a few days since we've heard from your phone.

For now it's not being used for Home/Away Assist. Check your phone's location settings.

My iPhone location settings are turned on and Nest is set to always.

Hello Jbaugh4663,

Thanks for posting and apologies for the late reply. I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should.

To confirm: may I know what Nest products you use for the home/away assist? Does the issue happen only on your phone? Have you tried using a different mobile device like iPad, tablet or a spare phone?

Could you check if the “What decides if you're home” option uses your phone location? Here’s how:

  • Open the Nest app.
  • Tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  • Select Home/Away Assist.
  • Choose What decides if you’re home.
  • Select Use phone location.
  • Tap the switch to expand the menu. This will show a list of all the people with shared control of your Nest home.
  • Tap your name.
  • Tap the switch to enable or disable phone location for Home/Away Assist.

Note: Each person can only use one phone to share one phone location at a time. If you’ve already enabled phone location on one phone, enabling it on a different phone will disable it on the first phone.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Emerson
