Nest fire alarm doesn't work

I replaced the batteries in my nest protect with new Energizer lithium batteries. And the protect does nothing. Yet when I plug it in directly via the USB port it fires up just fine. The batteries are brand new.

 

Has anybody run this? And is there a solution for it? Or does the fire alarm just need to be thrown in the trash?

How old is the protect? They do have an expiration set in them.

Are probably 5 years at this point.  Didn't know. Definitely will reconsider given that

@SteveAz thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I just wanted to make sure the model of the Energizer batteries that you have. It should be the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries. If possible, could you share the photo of your new batteries with us. It would be much better if you could take a photo of the model. Also, all carbon monoxide (CO) alarms expire because their sensors have a limited lifespan. To comply with certification standards, 2nd gen Nest Protect has to be replaced after 10 years, while 1st gen Nest Protect has to be replaced after 7 years.
