New automation function

Hi everyone,

ever since Google launched the new "When a device does something" routines trigger I have been experimenting with this feature.

For example, when I turn on a light, my Nest mini makes an announcement.
Unfortunately, the trigger starts only when the state of the light changes in the app, and this only occurs if I reload the page of the room where the light is present.

In practice, I turn on the light with the physical button on the wall and nothing happens, because the app does not give the exact feedback, but if I reload the page from the app or exit the room page, the light becomes ON also in the app and the routine begins immediately.

This happens for every automation I want to start with the "When a device does something" trigger.

I hope I was clear enough, anyone else with this problem?

Thanks

Hi Nicola79,

I'm sorry to hear about your concern with routine triggers ― a few questions: what are the smart devices linked to your Nest Mini and Google Home app? When you give a voice command to turn on lights, does it respond well? For confirmation, is your main concern about your command not triggering your routines or is it about your smart lights not responding to the manual on and off or via voice commands?

Let's isolate this concern of yours to know what the next steps to take.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks so much for your reply. The home automation configuration is supported by a strong KNX backbone wired via BUS. All the lights, thermostats, shutters and motorized accesses are connected via BUS and are managed by a Logic Machine which activates and deactivates the actuators. The connection of the home automation system to the Google Home system is managed by a KNX Easykon Freedompro module.

So to answer your questions:

1) There are a lot of devices connected to the Google Home app, all those connected to the Easykon (lights, shutters, thermostats, etc.) plus some devices connected independently (a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner, a Nuki smart lock, an LG television and several TP-Link smart plugs.)
2) Voice commands work perfectly with any Nest Mini device or smartphone.
3) All devices respond perfectly both via physical button and via voice command, my problem is when I prepare a device-triggered routine this does not start when the device executes the command written in the routine.

To give a simple example:

I write a routine from the Google Home app that when an 'A' light comes on a 'B' light also comes on.
Basically any way I turn on light 'A' (by app, voice command or physical button) light 'B' does not turn on because the view in the Google Home app light 'A' does not sync with its real state.
In fact, as soon as I reload the lights page (or go to another page and return) the status of light "A" lights up and the routine starts immediately, turning on light "B".

In practice, the device trigger for routines does not work autonomously until the state of the device is synchronized in the Google Home app, and this only happens only if the page is reloaded.

You can see this is a problem, as automations need to fire independently of the user's view of the app.

In the proprietary app of the Freedompro KNX supervisor, on the other hand, when a device is active (by app, voice or physical button) it instantly changes its status by synchronizing the icon.

It's a shame because it was my intention to use the Google Home app as the command center of my routines, I've written dozens of them that work perfectly with voice command triggers or specific time triggers. Are the routines that use device triggering that I just can't get to work on their own.

I hope I have explained my problem sufficiently, thanks so much for your assistance Dan!

My best regards and happy holidays.

I apologize for the late response. I really appreciate you giving the details for your concern which involves the routine feature. How are we doing now, is the behavior still the same?

I'll be waiting for your response so that we could take the appropriate steps.

Kind regards,
