Now unable to trigger automations with physical light switch status change

Up until the last few weeks I have had an automation, that basically turns on some LED lighting strip (Tapo) under my kitchen cupboard when the physical kitchen main light button (Smart Life) is physically pressed (not a button in the smartlife or home app, but actually pressing with my finger) . This uses the change in status of the Smart Life device to turn on the LED strip on and off, basically so the LED lighting works in tandem with the main ceiling lights without the need to electrically cross wire the devices or issue an audio command to google home, it just works by anyone turning the kitchen light switch on, this has worked since Google introduced their ability to trigger automations with device status changes.

I now see that the devices in either SmartLife or EnerjSmart (same company) cannot now be used to trigger automation events. They aren't even selectable as a trigger option.

Has the ability to trigger automations by physical devices now been removed ? It seems you can use Displays, Lights, Outlets, Speakers and Thermostats to change the status, but not Switches.

I've tried re-linking removing and re-adding and all the normal stuff you do to get google home working again, but this looks like something Google have enforced at the back end.picture.jpg

I’m using physical switches too, but I don’t have any problems with it. I use Tuya Smart and not the SmartLife app to connect the switches. After all I have make an automation in the Tuya app, because the automation in Google has a delay of 1 á 2 seconds. Google has to connect to Tuya, that will give you that delay.

Unfortunately my switches and lights are different brands so I can't use the native app. That's why I was using Google to integrate them. I suspect this is just Google making changes without informing customers, which is nothing new...I

You can try to connect youre products to the Tuya-app, because a lot of different products are working with a app that's based on the Tuya group. For excample I'm using products of LSC and Osaio. Tuya will recognize these products. So give it a try. After connecting, you will see the products in Google Home.

Now this is odd I've added the device to Tuya (thanks for that advice) and now the Tuya-app and Google home show the change in status when I press the button and I can select it in my automation, but the automation does not run when I press the light switch.  Despite google now knowing the light is on.

When I look at the switch in google or tuya, there are three switches for one switch. Don’t ask me why. You have switch one, switch two and an other switch. You have to find out what switch you have to use in your automation. I guess that’s your problem.

It also reminds me that when I make a routine for instance; put switch one off after 30 minutes. Google give me the notes that for safety reasons it’s not possible to change the switch. So I had made a routine in Tuya. I have two switches in my stairway, so they have to work together, what is a puzzle to automate. But it’s work.
