Phantom routines leftover when a user leaves the home

Pimmer1

I got married last year and made a new Google account with my new name. I added this account to my Google home setup and removed the account with the old name. Now I'm having an issue where the household routines I set up with the old account still run but don't show up in the app. I tried adding the old account back to see if they showed up but they do not. How do I edit these routines? I know I should've deleted them before removing the account from the home but I either thought they would stay as household routines or they would be deleted from the home automatically. That doesn't seem to be the case and now I'm stuck.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi  @Pimmer1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

I’m sorry to hear that you are having issues with the routines on the Google Home; I'll be more than glad to help you to fix this issue. As I saw in your post, you only delete the old account and add a new one. What we can try is to manage the routines on your account, like deleting them and creating a new one. You can take a look at the following article: Create and manage Routines in Google Home.

Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Derick

How can I delete them if I can't see them in the app?

For example, there's a routine created by the old account that broadcasts "take the trash out" every Sunday at 5pm. This routine broadcast still happens every Sunday at 5pm but I can't see the routine anywhere in the app and therefore I can't edit or delete it.

Hey there!

Thank you for your reply. What you can try is access to your Google Home account using the old email address, and make sure that you can delete the devices, if you can see the devices. Follow the steps below:

  1. Delete all devices linked to the old email account and make a factory reset after you remove the devices from the previous home structure.
  2. Create a new home structure using the new email address, link the devices, and create the new routines.

You can take a look at the following article to factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Derick.

There's really no better way than to wipe away the entire home structure and factory reset every single device (50+ light bulbs, switches, Google homes, cameras, etc)?

Edit: as you can see from my original post I did go and add my original account back to the home but the routines I had made do not show up. There are no issues with the devices in the home or the ability to see them in the app. This post is only concerning the phantom routines that are lost in the ether and me trying to access them. I really don't want to have to redo my entire home setup and lose all my data just to get rid of a few routines

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply. Here are some steps that you can try before deleting your home structure:

If you can't find a device in the available starters and actions for a Routine, check that the device is in the same home that you're using for the Routine:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites . At the top, check that you're using the desired home for the Routine.
  3. Tap Devices . If the device is in "Local devices" instead of a room, the device may be in a different home.
  4. To move the device to another home, touch and hold the device's tile and then tap Settings .
  5. Tap Device information and then Home and then the name of the home you're using for the Routine

Note: If that doesn’t work, it will be necessary to delete the home structure and re-add the devices as we discussed before.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Derick.

Hi Derek, as I've stated several times now this is an issue with existing routines not showing up in the Google home app. These routines still run regularly but don't show up in the app so I cannot edit or delete them and would like to. That is the issue to which I am seeking a solution. I am having no issues with the devices in my home.

If you decide to reply again please read my post and replies carefully to avoid giving advice for an issue I do not have.

Thank you

Hey there!

Thank you for your reply. I understand that you are not able to remove the Phantom routines because you can't see them in your Google Home Account. I was looking for alternative options, but the only way to remove them is to delete the home structure and create a new one and set the devices in the new home structure.

Don't hesitate to keep posting if you need more help.

Regards,

Derick.
