Pixel Tablet not showing Nest camera feeds when requested by voice command

Once again, the Pixel Tablet (brand new, running Android 15) will not show camera feeds from any of our Nest cameras when they are requested by voice command. This was an issue in 2023 and early 2024 that Google fixed. Here is my original forum post: https://support.google.com/googlepixeltablet/thread/248281541?hl=en

Frustratingly, the issue is now recurring. When we request our Front Yard Camera feed, the Pixel Tablet shows us our local Walmart...make it make sense. When we request our Shed Camera feed, it gives us the definition of a shed or shows us the results for a Google search for "shed camera." This is exceedingly frustrating. We have nine Nest cams and 3 Pixel Tablets, and we cannot view feeds from any of the cameras on any of our Pixel Tablets when we request the feeds with a voice command. The things are on the fritz, it seems.

Hi @LePoot,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Pixel Tablets are not showing the feeds of your Nest cameras when requested by voice command. I understand this is not the best experience, especially since it's not the first time this has happened. I'm happy to assist you.

There's some information related to your Pixel Tablets and Nest cameras that I need to confirm. Please provide the information requested below:

  • Are your Pixel Tablets and Nest cameras linked to the same Google account and home in the Google Home app?
  • Can you confirm if Voice Match is enabled on the Pixel Tablets?
  • Are the Nest cameras currently online and viewable in the Google Home app?
  • Are the Pixel Tablets connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Nest cameras?
  • Does the Assistant respond to other commands (e.g., checking the weather, setting reminders)?
  • Are you able to view your cameras feed manually through the Google Home app on the Pixel Tablets?
  • Do voice commands show the cameras feed working on any other Assistant-enabled device (like a Nest Hub or another phone)?
  • Have you unlinked and relinked your Nest cameras or Google account in the Google Home app?
  • Have you tested this using a different Google account or created a new home in the Home app to isolate the issue?

In the meantime, I recommend visiting the article Troubleshoot Assistant voice commands on Pixel Tablet.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Hi Anders,

Thank you for your response.

Are your Pixel Tablets and Nest cameras linked to the same Google account and home in the Google Home app?

  • Can you confirm if Voice Match is enabled on the Pixel Tablets?
    • Confirmed
  • Are the Nest cameras currently online and viewable in the Google Home app?
    • Yes
  • Are the Pixel Tablets connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Nest cameras?
    • Yes
  • Does the Assistant respond to other commands (e.g., checking the weather, setting reminders)?
    • Yes
  • Are you able to view your cameras feed manually through the Google Home app on the Pixel Tablets?
    • Yes
  • Do voice commands show the cameras feed working on any other Assistant-enabled device (like a Nest Hub or another phone)?
    • Yes. We just tested the same voice command, “Show me the Front Yard Camera,” on a Nest Hub and it worked immediately.
  • Have you unlinked and relinked your Nest cameras or Google account in the Google Home app?
    • No, and we really aren't keen on doing so as we’d lose our 60 days of video history, the other devices (like the Nest Hub) can pull up the feeds, and the issue has been resolved once in the past, indicating that the issue lies with the Pixel Tablets or the Assistant itself.
  • Have you tested this using a different Google account or created a new home in the Home app to isolate the issue?
    • We have not. We have 2 spare Nest Cam Battery (Indoor/Outdoor) units and 1 Nest Cam (Indoor) unit we could repurpose for such a test. However, We’d have to reset a Pixel Tablet for this test as it would have to join the new “Test Home,” isn’t that right?

Hi @LePoot,

Thank you for the information provided. I understand there are some steps you'd prefer not to follow, since removing the cameras or adding them to a different home may not be the best option for you. I have already informed the higher team about this issue in order to fix it, and we will let you know once we get an update regarding this.

I know this feature is really useful, considering your needs and the needs of all Nest users.
We're always looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate your feedback.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Anders
