Rename Nest Audio?

AlphaTango

Do you think the ability to rename a Nest Audio speaker will be finished soon? The option is there and when I rename the speakers, it does remember what I wanted to name it in that one text box,  but when I go back to the home page,  it just shows the name Google chose for the speaker.

Also, will we be able to move Nest audio speakers to other rooms soon? The option is there to set a new room, but once you set the new room, no change is made.

I thought maybe there was some issue locally, so I uninstalled the Home app from my Android device and reinstalled, removed all people from my "home", deleted my "home", factory reset all of my nest devices, and started adding them again. But it's still impossible to rename a nest device, or even simply give it my preferred name when I a dd it to my home. Google home insisted that it give it a name, which is not user friendly. The names overlap and make it impossible to control the correct device.

I do have one Nest Hub, and the rename feature works fine for that,  it's just Nest Speakers that don't have the renane feature implemented.

Ok, I got the other two Nest Audio speakers connected, and during connection, the UI asks me what to name the device so that I can easily identify them.  Nice. But two of my Nest Audio speakers do not bother with that question, name themselves, and then refuse to have a name change. I have reset them many times,  and always they refuse a name managed by me.  Any thoughts?

Hey AlphaTango,

Thanks for reaching out and we appreciate all the steps you've tried so far.

Could you try reinstalling your Google Home app? To make sure is this the steps you've followed:

  1. Make sure that the mobile device is linked to the same account as the Google Nest or Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings> Device information> Device name.
  5. Type a new name> OK.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Alex

Yes that is what i tried multiple times. I even deleted the home, and started from scratch, creating the home and adding the nest devices. I also fully reset the nest devices and still rename in a f3ature that does not work.  The same two unrenable Nest audio speakers  are unable to be renamed using the steps you mention above.  I don't know if it's a fixable bug or not.  For now,  i gave up on renaming the devices,  joined them to another speaker in a pair, and the name for the pair makes sense.
