Routines and music on multiple speakers

I had a routine for the school year that would start when my family needed to wake up, it would turn on various lights and start playing a shuffle of a playlist on a speaker group. (The "play music" command was "shuffle PLAYLISTNAME playlist on SPEAKERGROUPNAME")

This... generally worked. (I had to modify the playlist name a few times, eventually landing on a phone number, because it would end up playing other things, I had to add playlist because it'd decide to randomly decide to start playing albums, things like that.)

I turned the routine off in June since school was no longer in session so it wasn't needed. I reenabled it a few days ago and it now just won't play music, instead saying it can't find the playlist called "PLAYLISTNAME playlist on SEPAKERGROUPNAME". I've tried some other routines that were supposed to play on entire speaker group, but they don't seem to work anymore, either.

Is there a way to get this to work again? Or is there another way to get things to play on speaker groups?

Hi @sirbissel,

Thanks for posting in the community forum. I understand that your routines for playing music on multiple speakers have stopped working because when you activate the routine, you get an error message saying the playlist can't be found on your speaker group, and the music won't play. I know this may be concerning, especially since your routine was working before, and you didn't make any changes to the playlist or the routine itself. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared and the troubleshooting you've already done. Don't worry, I'd be more than glad to assist you. To help with that, I have a few questions:

  • What type of Google speakers do you have? You can find the model in this article: Google Nest speakers and displays.
  • What platform are you using for your playlist?
  • Did you try using another playlist to see if the issue also happened with that?
  • Is the Activate Routine toggle enabled?
  • Can you find an entry in the Activity tab for the routine running?
  • Is the Google Home app updated?

Please let me know the answer to these questions.

Regards,
Jonathan

Speakers: A mixture of Google Home Minis, Google Nest Minis, and the Nest Hub.

Platform: Spotify

Using another playlist: Yes.

Activate Routine toggle enabled: Yes, and other parts of the routine (such as turning on lights) does work.

Entry in Activity tab: Yep, says "Routine started", time it started, and that it was scheduled.

Updated: Yes.

I would really like to see the resolution to this issue. I’m having the same issue.

I just purchased my Google home ecosystem with a Google mini speaker 2nd gen and 3 Audio Nest speakers. I started a “Work from Home” routine and the configuration only allows me to select one speaker, and that speaker is the only one that will play.

Ideally I would like the configuration to allow me to select not only individual speakers but Speaker Groups to play on.
