Using a Nest Protect Smoke Detector in a foreign country

Andrija

I would really like to use a Nest Protect Smoke Detector to protect my family in a foreign country. I’m planning on ordering one, and I’m wondering, if it will work as intended, meaning.. if it will serve it’s purpose as a smoke detector, in a country like Serbia, whether it is connected to the app or not.. or if it is somehow region locked, and thus won’t work whatsoever.

It's not region locked. However, Google Home and Google Nest products are optimized to work best with specific Wi-Fi standards depending on where they are sold. This means if you buy a product designed for one country, it may not work as expected, or may not work at all, if you try to use it in a different country than where it was designed for and you won't be able to contact Google or have any warranty support, unless you return it to a supported country. Given Nest Protect is a safety device, my recommendation would be to find an alternative product that is sold and supported in your country.
