there is no mention of a gen 4 thermostat that I can'not see on my mac book pro.

Assuming you're using Safari, given you mentioned your Mac is a 2012 model, I wonder if it's too old to support the features needed for the website to work properly.

The browser / your computer needs to support WebRTC and Media Source Extensions (MSE).

maybe its time for GOOGLE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN ANSWER since they bought NEST AND CHANGED AWORKING SYSTEM.
