so I've heard of the recent deal with ADT, and I'm not sure if this is the place to ask this question.

I'm seeing conflicting messages.  We have the entire nest home package (smoke, thermometer, door alarm, nest hub, connect, etc).  All I'm interested in is the monitoring, given we have all the equipment.  Am I REQUIRED to purchase any ADT equipment?

Thanks,

Miguel V.

Hi mvillafana2002,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Purchasing ADT equipment is not required and is only optional. Your Google Nest monitoring devices will still work as intended and it depends solely on you if you wish to add an ADT device to your system.

If you have other questions or concerns, let me know.

Cheers,
Lovely

Sorry, ADT is adamant saying that their equipment would be required, and their Google/ADT site keeps pushing their own products.  Can you clarify on the record and w/a reference indicating that that Google Nest owners will NOT be required to purchase additional equipment if/when they switch to ADT?

Hello again mvillafana2002,

Please send more details my way on what you are trying to do. Give me the website where you are pushed to get ADT products. I'd like to take a closer look at this. Check out this support article for more information.

Thanks,
Lovely

I'm currently using the google nest security system (alarms, doorbell, smoke detector, thermostat, etc.) w/Brinks, and they've done a good job.  However, they're shutting down this fall (I think), and I was told that ADT would be the replacement.  W/Brinks, I didn't have to purchase any additional equipment.  However, ADT is saying something different.

ADT does not apparently have a "ah, you have your own equipment.  let's set up a  monitoring-only service".  They're selling me google-branded equipment that I already own.

Help?

Hey mvillafana2002,

Sorry for the delayed response. Our Nest Secure, Dropcam and Works with Nest are the ones ending on April 8, 2024. If you don't have these devices, then your Google Nest security system will continue to work as it is. You can check out this link for more information about this update.

Kind regards,
Lovely

I'm aware of that.

Again, my concern and that of other Google nest equipment owners interested in the ADT announcement is its insistence that we purchase their equipment in order to use just the monitoring service.  Brinks never required us to purchase any of their equipment, so why is ADT now requiring us to do so?

There appears to be a deep disconnect between Google and ADT, and the conflicting announcements appear to confirm that.   I thought nearly 3 years would've been more than enough time for partners Google and ADT to work out the details.  It seems no one at ADT (or Google for that matter) is taking serious ownership of an issue that from what I'm seeing may well result in embarrassment and litigation toward Google, especially regarding the laughable credit Google's offered toward its customers.  Indeed, I and other Nest owners spent thousands of dollars on the cams, thermostats, etc, and now we feel ripped off.  Anyway, that's for another discussion board.  In fact, I think one already exists.

Btw, I just got this email from ADT a little while ago.  Their self-setup option is still pushing me to buy equipment.  Again, this is not what was said by Google.

Again, if I want a MONITORING-ONLY service with no additional equipment purchase requirement--which is what Brinks has done for the past several years--does ADT allow that, or am I forced to purchase their equipment?

Why didn't you replay to their 4/16/23 posting? That's a question we all have!

Hey there,

We haven't heard from you in a while, so we'll be locking this thread if there's still no update within 24 hours. If you have any new issues, updates or just a discussion topic, feel free to start a new thread here in the Community.

Kind regards,

Lovely

Amazing you ignore the crucial questions. I've read so many postings here and am still in the dark about my equipment.

At this point Google is almost demanding a class action.

Why are you ignoring their post from Thursday?

You have to accept the promo offer in the email by providing the adt folks the promo code enclosed in the email to get the free system. The actual Nest security system you had is no longer going to be supported and Brinks will not monitor it anymore professionally. Or you can take the $200 credit to the Google store and just buy more cameras or whatever.

Do not get the ADT package google offered! I decided to try it out and the devices and operation is complete garbage! Google stated it would have the monitoring free for one year, but I have already been charged a monthly $8 fee! I spent 10 hours on the phone with ADT trying to get that fee refunded and to close my account and get a refund and I couldn’t even get through to anyone who could help me. It was hours of sitting on hold and getting the runaround. I’m going to have to spend the day again trying to get it taken care of!!!  ADT is a completely dishonest company, and horrible! If you call the number to sign up for a new account  someone picks right up, but when you call the number for customer service no one will answer! Stay away from this tricky offer!!
