google home app linked devices Offline/unusable Feit & TreatLife devices

My post is similar to: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Home-Automation/Smart-life-devices-appearing-as-offline-in-go...

I had a Feit (CostCo) and TreatLife (Amzn) dimmer switches linked to my Google Home account for several weeks. Breaker box circuit was off a few times for days on end. Eventually it appeared as "Offline" in Home app and I couldn't give voice commands. I tried unlinking FEIT app from Google Home then re-adding. That lost me access to my other FEIT dimmer switches, all appearing as Offline. (Fall 2023 in Google Home preview (beta) layout, but I've read it affects all Google Home at this time.)

Also I added two TreatLife ceiling fan dimmer switches which had same issue straight away. Found TreatLife and Feit are interchangeable. So I added these fan switches to Feit app, didn't need Treatlife app/acct on phone.

Lots of research, tried all sorts of stuff. The only "solution" I found from blogs and google responses was to create a new "home" in the Home app and move EVERY device into the new home and delete the old home. I found a big improvement on that solution. Essentially create a temp home, move the device to that home, then test it (more work may be needed, deets below), then move it back to the original home.

Here are explicit step-by-step instructions (Goolge Home app):
  • Create a list offline of all the Offline devices to be fixed. (will save you time jumping around later)
  • Click Settings in the bottom Control Bar
  • Go into Devices, groups, & rooms
  • Go into each room w Offline device
  • Select the Offline device
  • Select Home and for first-to-move device only, select Add another home (assuming Home1 is your regular, create Home2), for subsequent devices just select Home2
  • Put device into a room in Home2 w/ same name as room in Home1
  • Careful now: the app switched you to Home2 w/ no indication
  • Hit back like 2-3x and test the device. If it still says Offline or doesnt' work, you need remove and re-add device using the Feit app procedure below.
  • If it's working or once you got it re-added using Feit app: select Home again and switch it back to Home1. Keep room the same.
Feit app Procedure:
  • Careful: remove & re-add devices one at a time. They each get generic names: "smart-dimmer-3" vs "smart-dimmer-4." You won't know which maps to each physical switch without walking into each room IRL.
  • Long-select the device
  • Click the Edit pen in the upper right
  • Click Remove Device at bottom
  • Select Disconnect and wipe data
  • Throws you back to device list. After 5sec pull down on the list to get it to refresh.
  • Orphaned device should pop up as "Devices to be added: XYZ. Select Add.
  • Enter wifi creds
  • If a neighbor's device is accidentally in the list, click little blue square in the progress circle of that single device to stop that one add-attempt.
  • After a min, you'll get either "Added successfully" or it might time out. Usually the timeout is inconsequential. Just go to devices list 30s later and pull down to refresh it.
  • Rename device back to the name you had before (click Edit pen a few times then Name)
  • Hit back a few times to device list. Go ahead and toggle the light to prove it works.
Switch over to Google Home app:
  • Careful, newly re-add Feit device will appear as "Linked-to-you" in both your google homes. Switch to original Home1
  • Fast-click the re-added device to test it's linked by toggling on/off.
  • In Control Bar select Devices, long-click the device you just re-added
  • Select Settings wheel upper right, select Home
  • Choose Home1, then follow prompts to put in correct room.
  • Should be done. Go ahead and test voice commands.
