A few questions: are you getting any message when connecting your Chromecast to your network? What's the exact message you're seeing on your TV screen? Are you using a private home network? 

 

Give these steps a try: 

 

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 feet of your Wi-Fi router. 
  2. Reboot your Chromecast and router to refresh the connections.
  3. Check router settings. (AP isolation must be disabled and UPnP must be enabled).
  4. If you're using an iPhone, make sure you turn on Local network access for the Google Home app on your phone settings. Here's how: Privacy > Local Network > Google Home app.
  5. Use a mobile hotspot to set up your devices (To isolate the issue). 
  6. If the issue persists, reset your Chromecast.
