nest Audio broken?

skrutt

We had a nest Audio for ~3years. Used it daily and very happy with it. Then some 2 weeks ago it suddenly would not respond, and kept alternating between "a declining beep", a general "didn't work, try again" and "could not connect to wifi".

I have since tried all, resetting it, different Wifi, router settings etc you name it. It would sometimes go through setup ok, work for a while and then fall flat again when trying to use it a few hours later. It consistently would only connect to 2.4ghz wifi, no 5ghz at all. And then flake out from 2.4ghz as well.

What gives? Why did this happen and can it be saved? We have since gotten a nest hub and that works without issues, in the same old spot. But I do miss the better sound of the nest Audio. Any ideas are welcome.

Hi @skrutt,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Audio is not working properly and that you're experiencing connection inconveniences. I'm here to help.

To begin troubleshooting, please confirm and perform the following steps:

  1. What LED color does the device give?
  2. Is the speaker and display within 15 to 20 feet of the setup device?
  3. Connect your Nest Audio to a hotspot:
    • Tap on the Wi-Fi hotspot name to connect.

    • If the mobile device connects successfully, open the Google Home app to start setup for the speaker.

  4. Attempt setup with another mobile device.

You can find more information in the article "Fix issues with a Nest speaker or display not connecting to Wi-Fi."

Let me know how it goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Anders

Hi Anders, thanks for your response!

Sadly, I have already tried all of those, including checking the router settings. Led color is normal.

Any other ideas? Is it possible to do a firmware update/downgrade?

Ok, i filled in the form, with the requested details and some more. I have checked in my router and the nest audio does show up - but not for long. it only maintains a connection for a few seconds before disappearing. ~15 - 20 seconds later it's back and repeats the pattern.
