routines no longer work - work for years

clayton68

I have two nest hubs and two cameras  - I set up routines to display the cameras on both of my hubs every hour because some time the feed will stop displaying. It has work for a couple of years with no problems. About a week or so ago the routines no longer work. I can say Hey google, show me the driveway or front door it works, When the routine runs now it comes back and say not understood, For some reason  "probably an update" it no longer understands the commands in the routine. Command was just show driveway and show front door.

Hi @clayton68,

Thanks for reaching out in the community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties using your routine in your Nest display and with your Nest camera. Don't worry, I'm here to help. To better assist you, I have some questions:

  • What type of display do you have?
  • Was this routine created using the Google Home app or a third-party app?
  • Is this a Personal or Household Routine?
  • Is the Activate Routine toggle enabled?
  • What starters do you have configured to start the Routine? Which specific starter do you think should have activated the Routine?
  • Can you find an entry in the Activity tab for the Routine running?

Please let me know the answers to these questions, and I'll be happy to help you further.

Sincerely,
Jonathan

Routines were created using Google Home under Househild and the are activated. The have worked for at least 3 years. I used the time for starters and action create your own.  I had 48 routines. 2 routines started every hour  - one "Show Driveway" and one "Show Front Door" . on two different Hub displays. Its not a problem with the automation -- the problem the server no longer understands the commands. I can update any of the routine and put  Show date, Show weather and it works. I can say "Hey google, Show Driveway or Show Front Door and it works. Again, its on the server side, I'm a Retired SA, worked 40 years keeping Fedex's aircraft and packages moving,  Sometime I get a reply "I don't understand.

Also, In the routines you can put more than one action. I tried it first action

Show Driveway  -- does not work

second action

Show weather   -- that works     everytime

In short -- routine is running  -- Does not work on Show Drive or Show Front door anymore

Let me add this, I have factory reset the hubs and deleted Google Home and reinstalled it.

I have tried new commands and new routines.

The command that worked for years was just  Show Driveway and Show Front Door

I tried Hey Google, Show Driveway  and a load of other commands 🙂

Hi @clayton68,

Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate the information shared.

To be on the same page, have you tried deleting your current routines and creating new ones? Also, please tell me if you have tried using other commands in the routines, such as "play the X camera" or "What's on the X camera?"

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Jonathan

Yes,  i have deleted them and added a couple of new ones. Its taking the cammand line and presenting it as a query to google. Tried  Hey google, What's on the Front Door camera", responds with "Front door caamera TV episode, Frist aired March 31, 2015.

Then Hey google, Show me the front door, responds with Home Depot, Lowes and Best Buy.

Then Hey google, Stream The Front Door,   nothing  -- when i say Hey google, stream the Front Door   -- it works

when i say Hey google, show me the front door it works.. Something has change how goolge in interperting the command for showing, streaming the camera..thanks

I've sorted mine.

My Nest Hub is called "Living Room display"

The command is "Show the doorbell on the Living Room Display"

Play on: "Don't play media"

This now works.

Initially it used to be:

Play on: Living Room display

This no longer works.

I have exactly the same issue.

I can view the cameras on the display if I trigger by a voice command, but the same command triggered as an automation fails.

It worked perfectly up until a few days ago when these automations suddenly stopped working.

HI @clayton68,

Thanks for the information you shared.

After reviewing your case ID and support information, it looks like the routine works when you say "Hey Google" in the routine, but not without it. So, to keep using the routine, you'll need to include the "Hey Google" command. I understand that's not what you want. I encourage you to submit feedback directly from your device, if you haven’t already. Just say “Hey Google, send feedback” and provide as much detail as possible when prompted.

Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I'd be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Update: I have two "homes" under my account, HOUSE and CLAYTON. I always set the devices up in  HOUSE, the devices show up under HOUSE but under CLAYTON they show up as local devices. I delete all my devices again and remove and reinstalled the home app. I added back on one hub for testing. Its in my devices under HOUSE but under CLAYTON it shows up as a local device. I created a new routine and in HOUSE when I run it and select the DISPLAY in the routine it does not work. I can switch to CLAYTON and run it  works. The only difference is that in CLAYTON i can't select a display, in HOUSE in can. When I added the device  I added it in HOUSE.   So it understands the command "Show the Front Door" and  "Show tHe Driveway" only in CLAYTON  --  the display is in local only..  So this might help to figure out what is going on. I'm going to add my second hub later and see what happens,
