stuck forever on adding wifi point to wifi network

Hi all i hope in posting this in the right area. I have had  google nest 3 pack for 3 years now.  Lately with lots of drop outs. At least 5 dropouts a week. I decides to factory reset everything including my app and profile and start fresh.

I'm having a really frustrating issue when I connect the wifi point to the nest router and it gets to the end when it's adding it to the wifi network and just stays there for ever. Can anyone help this has beat me. 3 hours in I'm asking for help before I go buy a new system.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience. This issue has been fixed alongside the release of Google Home app 3.29, all users should have received the update by now. If you're running a different version of the app, double check for updates in the Play Store and try restarting your device. If that doesn't fix the issue for you, please let us know in a comment below.

This is the one I used.
I know nothing about this site.

but it worked for me.

Thank you for posting.

I tried version 3.28 from November but didn't work.

I will try this one when I get back home later this week.

Thank you so much for this! Installing this finally resolved the issue.

You're welcome. The idea crossed my mind since it worked on iPhones. Made me think it was a software problem

Thank you Tjarrard. I un-installed my current Home app and installed the one you listed and using the older Home app version on my s24ultra, both my points are connected to the WiFi network now. 👍

Great! Now it's connected, I'd put the current version back on.

Thank you so much Tjarrard, the link you posted fixed it for me and it was a huge help to get things back up.  Hopefully the Google engineers will fix the Home App with the next update so we don't have to use work arounds.

Hey everyone, I took the suggestions above to try & connect the Wi-Fi point via a different device (Android vs Apple iOS). After numerous tries to set up the wifi point (not the router),  using my Android pixel 9, it failed every time. After reading this discussion, I tried setting it up via my iPad & it connected first time with no issues.

Obviously this probably won't work for everyone because not all of you own both types of devices, but if you do have both devices, use that method for now. Good luck!

Bought a 2 pack nest  router with  point and same issue gets stuck forever adding point to wifi network. I have had to set up home app on partners iphone and then send invite from pixel 8 home app and then went through the add wifi point  through the iphone and it got the set up done then it shows up in my devices on pixel 8. So this obviously is a google issue and  needs sorting out asap, unacceptable when I spend what i call a large amount of money on this mesh . 3 hours near enough to sort this out.

Hi folks,

Thank you to everyone who has reported an issue with adding Nest Wifi Points through the Google Home app on Android. Our team is aware and actively working on a fix. We'll keep you updated once a fix is on the way, we appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Just a few minutes ago I supplied detailed email with all the screenshots of all my settings.

From my experiences, appears that the Wi-Fi access points were upgraded around January 10th and now they don't work at all for me.

Three of them are the original first generation. One is still Google Wi-Fi but a newer version. This newer one is the only one I can connect to get be a router. The other three don't work at all. And even still with this one connected as the router, Google home is still losing its connection and this router is hiccuping and disconnecting a couple of times an hour for a few seconds. This is the initial symptom that I had starting around January 10th where Google home was showing. My Wi-Fi access points were dropping. Now that Wi-Fi is gone in most of my house, I've used ethernet and now I'm experiencing these frequent drops.

When I use my Verizon router and not the Google Wi-Fi, I don't have any issues.

Have also deleted my Google home app and reloaded it several times. I've even loaded the December version and the November version 3.20. none of those home apps work to get the Wi-Fi access points working.

Therefore, I come to the conclusion it has to be the the software upgrade to the Wi-Fi access points.

Has this issue been resolved yet?

so far, just the 2 work around.  use an I-device, or side load and old version of Google Home (August 2024 I know worked.

No

And for some reason, the workarounds don't work for me.

We need an update and immediate fix  on this , this is not acceptable when it was raised 2 weeks ago. !

When are we expecting the fix. Otherwise I can return the device

Tried using an iPhone with the Google Home app and it finally worked.

Issue lies with Android unfortunately

Still waiting for a fix, week later and unacceptable on your silence on this urgent problem !

Installing Google Home 2.59.1.9 from manually downloaded APK worked for me.

Do you have an ETA on a patch to resolve this issue. It appears that this is a wide spread issue impacting a core demographic (people entrenched in the Google/Android/Nest ecosystem). The logical move here would be to prioritize a patch. Is there a communication plan in place to generate goodwill with your userbase? This is basic product and program management.

At this point, I think every impacted user should start reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and start the process of finding the contact information for the Product Owner, Program Manager, Architect and Engineer for this product and directing our feedback to the specific people responsible for this issue. This is unacceptable customer service.

I did a factory reset on the router and installed the latest Google Home app and I am now about to use the device.

"In the meantime folks, please move you home office (or actual office) within 5m of your router. We understand this defeats the point of purchasing our expensive wifi extending solution! 🙂 If that isn't possible, please drill holes throughout your home or office to accommodate lengthy ethernet cables. I'm afraid we cannot advise in either of these scenarios (which risk voiding your warranty) nor can (or will) we share with you how long our 'fix' will take to roll out. Have a totally awesome week!" - Google

What about same problem with iPhone home app?

It is ridiculous that this hasn't ben fixed yet

Thanks to BigMac88. It worked as you suggested with the Home App version 2.59.1.9.

Why don't you inform and update and guide this temporary fix to your support staff and as a solution until the proper fix instead your support staff were misleading this issue related to the ISP modem. So disappointed,

Is this issue resolved yet ? I spent last 24 hours trying to get this sorted.

How can i get a  update when its done ?

Thanks . It worked as  suggested with the Home App version 2.59.1.9

The Google support person said the Verizon router is the problem. I completely removed the router and still getting the same issues.

When is this going to be resolved?

Asking once again , there are too many people having the same MAJOR issue with your product adding points to network  that are rendered unusable . Now where is this fix and more so the lack of communication from Google ?

You posted this 2 weeks ago and still no **bleep** solution I want a bloody refund. This is complete bull**bleep**. Give me a refund or chucking all my Google hardware in the bin and moving to Amazon

I just got the 3 pack from Amazon yesterday and I have the SAME PROBLEM - Ready to send it back to Amazon if someone doesn't GET IT WORKING!

YOUR SHIPPING OUT JUNK THAT  DON' T WORK!

I see this post was from 2 weeks ago - I'm not gonna wait for you - it's going back to Amazon and I probably won't try anymore of your JUNK!

Apparently only if you use an apple device, pretty counter intuitive if you ask me for a google product.

Especially if you're using a Google Pixel from your Google fi account, on your Google home.

I'm in the exact same situation. I've had a Google Nest Wifi for a couple of years but switched ISPs today so done a factory reset of the main router. That went smoothly but now that I'm trying to connect my two access points I get constantly stuck on that final step of adding to the wifi network.

Fingers crossed a solution comes soon! 😭
