Nest Aware footage

CaptChaos
Community Member

Hey,

Is it possible to retrieve footage from one of my cameras from 34 days ago? It's past the 30 day mark, I get that. It's just that i need to download something that was caught on camera, for a court case?

Thanks

Tom

@CaptChaos

You cannot retrieve it.

Google Nest says "All video history is deleted on a rolling basis. This means that, depending on the Nest Aware subscription you have, older saved video is deleted from the cloud after a certain number of days." (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538)

I suspect it would be unethical and/or illegal for Google Nest to retain history beyond the period we've authorized them to do so.

Does footage from a Nest basic indoor camera stay in the cloud after 3 days?

@Shareen

It depends on exactly what you mean by your question.

If you do NOT have a Nest Aware subscription, Google Nest says they only store video history for the most recent 3 hours, with event video history for the newer 2nd gen cameras and snapshots for the older 1st gen cameras. This is stored on Google Nest's servers.

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538

If you're asking where video history is saved, for the older 1st gen cameras it's all stored on Google Nest's servers. For the newer 2nd gen cameras that are battery-powered, they can record and save events locally in internal memory for up to one hour of recorded events if they go offline, and then upload the video to the cloud when they come back online. The wired 2nd gen cameras cannot do this; it's all stored on the cloud.
