Hi there,
I went to many thread on this topic here and seems that I'm not the only one to have this issue, and no-one got it fixed. So I have very very litlle hopes, but I take chance. I have a Nest Doorbell (wired) that detects people in lieu of cars... I don't want to get the cars alerts, only people, but everything shoes as people.
Yes I have zones defined.
Yes I have done a factory reset.
Issue is that I have a street in front of the house, so when people are climbing the stairs, I want to get them detected, but on the background, there is car passing all day long. So I can't block that zone, it's where I want the detectiong.
Just as an example, between 7AM and 8AM today, I got 13 notifications, only 3 with people, 10 with cars.
6PM to 7PM yesterday: 11 notifications, 0 with people, 11 with cars.
And all those notifications are flagged as "People" in the application.
As you can see in the screenshot below, everything shows as People (Personne) and you can see the 2 cars on the street. The zone definition is excluding the green plant on the right.
Any hint/recommendation?

I understand your frustration. It can be annoying to get notifications for cars when you only want to be notified for people.
I've looked into this issue and it seems that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Some people have had success with the following tips:
I hope these tips help. If you're still having trouble, you can contact Nest support for help. You can do this by going to the Nest website and clicking on the Contact us link.

Thanks for trying, bot 😉 But one more time totally missed the target. Now waiting for the human reply.

Why can't you create a zone that runs at an angle and includes the entire street area? Then you can chose to detect events and/or receive notifications in that "street" zone or not, while still receiving notifications for your entire sidewalk area. That's what we do with the street in front of our house.
It may be that because the street is so far away and running at an angle to the camera that cars get confused for people.

I already disabled notifications for the cars. I have only people alerts activated. Here is my zone:
It covers only the top of the stairs. But when there is a car passing behind the tree, it triggers a "person detected" alert. Summer will soon fix the issue, as the leaves will hide the cars, and it will be back in fall for another 6 months at least.
I am also suspecting the detection model to confuse them. I can start tagging the pictures and objects if it helps 😉 Will be nice to be able to give a feedback on a video that it doesn'T countain the expected object...

If you keep your street in the background of your zones, as you've done, I think you're going to get false "people" notices from cars in the background.
You could draw your zones something like this instead, where the zone on the left is your stairs and the next zone is your sidewalk and yard, and the last zone, covering the top half, is your street.
We do something like this, and it works well.

Ha, I see! But if I do that, I will not have the face recognition working anymore, will I? Like, "Annie has been detected at the front door" might become "Someone has been detected at the front door". As long as the detection doesn'T need the face? I can give it a try...

Oh, I see. You wanted the zones high enough so they could pick up and detect people's faces. Well, it's a tradeoff between that and picking up vehicles in the background.
We don't use facial detection, so our announcements are just "Someone's at the front door".

Ok. After tyring for few days, with the zone configured as described, it works a bit better. Few false positives. Thanks for the recommandations. I will keep it running like that for some time and see if I keep the detection "on" or simply disable it (I have another Nest cam on the top of the house who is doing a good job)

Hi there,
Happy to hear that! I appreciate the gesture. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will be locking this in 24 hours if we don't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread, and we'll be happy to help.
All the best,
Zoe
